De Grasse won the Pan Am games in 19.88 (+0.3) out of lane 8. I think that's probably close to being an all time best out of lane 8.

Close, but not the best. 19.79 in the 1992 trials. Michael Johnson.

MJ from lane 8. After he crossed the line, he shouted "from lane 8!" It was classic johnson. The video is on youtube.
Wow, these 100m times are slow by 2015 standards
Calvin Smith won gold in 87 World Champs Rome from Lane 8. Had a sore inner hamstring and was glad to have a reduced turn. Sub 20?
Xavier Carter 19.63.

Forgot to mention that at the time, it was the second fastest time ever behind only the WR of 19.32.
Lane 8 is faster, if you can just concentrate on your own race and run your best. The reason the fastest times are not in lane 8 in meets is that the best performing athletes are in lanes 3-6. The catch with 8 is that you can't see where everyone else is, and that almost caught de Grasse. But for Michael Johnson who essentially had no competition, I bet he would have gone under 19.30 in lane 8.
I'd really love to see his second 100m split, because it looked like he was playing with boys.
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
