Any idea what runners make in these diamond league races? What does Centro get for a 2nd place in the 1500? Blankenship for 5th?
Do they get appearance fees?

Appearance fees, depends. I'm sure Kiprop got quite a bit, Centrowitz probably, Blankenship probably not.
Place – prize money
1st – USD $10,000
2nd – USD $6000
3rd – USD $4000
4th – USD $3000
5th – USD $2500
6th – USD $2000
7th – USD $1500
8th – USD $1000
I don't think appearance fees are public, but you hear a lot about Bolt commanding $300,000. I would guess that a moderately popular medalist like Centro gets $5000 plus expenses to show up and Blankenship gets $500 plus expenses.

What kind of 'expenses' would be included in your $xx + 'expenses'.
Is my assumption that the meet covers a basic room in the official hotel and offers a standard meal per diem to all wrong? In NYC meals might be $85 per day while Indiana[polis less at say $55-60.
After the 76 Olympics French hurdler Guy Drut had an interview (it was on TV, in all kinds of sports mags- track was huge in the USA back then) and he talked about under the table money.
He was talking about $50,000 appearance fees for guys like Viren and others.
I wish they would make them public. I'd love to know.
I remember the interview was even on 60 minutes because he talked about how track wasn't amateur at all.
He said they even claimed it for taxes.
