Brooks ghost destroyed my foot, help?

huh. I love the brooks ghosts.

The Brooks Defyance is probably more similar to the wave rider than the Ghost is. The Defyance and Launch are both shoes with big toe boxes.

Any ideas on New Balance, Nike or Saucony shoes that might work? I'm in Istanbul and there are lots of stores that sell those brands. Possibly Adidas or Asics as well.

The Saucony Ride has a reasonably firm midsole (at least compared to the Ghost) that should do well for you; it has a nice roomy toe box as well. The current Nike Pegasus is among several recent versions of that shoe that have widened out in the toes, and it is available in wide width if not. New Balance has a pretty generous toe box in general. Though the direct correlate to the Wave Rider from New Balance is the 880, I think the Zante might actually feel a bit more similar in terms of that snappy sensation you'll get from a more responsive shoe.

Having worked in run specialty for many years, I have always thought that softer shoes that are no more shock absorbent than their firmer counterparts tend to produce far more small, inexplicable injuries (despite often feeling better out of the box to the uninitiated). Brooks has a wealth of the market share, and I've always suspected that they're capitalizing on this fact. Brooks does gang busters among newbies and hobby joggers, but I don't know many experienced runners who like them (unless they got fit with Brooks initially and are just generally resistant to change).

Bottom line, the Ghost is the Appleby's Restaurant of neutral shoes; yeah, plenty of people gravitate towards it, and it does a lot of business, but I'd never go there unless I was really in a pinch.

I know this is an older post, but I had the same issue with the Ghosts -- particularly the Ghost 7s. And there's terrible wear on the lateral edges of the soles to prove it. It's so strange! Did you ever find an alternative?

I bought several pairs over the last few years including two Ghost 9's, and a Ghost 10.

Finally, after having a very sore heel on my right foot, I turned the shoes over to look at the bottoms. The newer Ghost 9, and the Ghost 10 were shedding small portions on the outside heel - creating a concave section where my right heel is sore. The pieces that are coming off look like they were simply glued on. I know that cannot be true, but that is what they look like; and you can just pick them off very easily with your fingers. The older pair of Ghost 9's did not have this problem.

Dude! I had the exact same issue with ASICS dynaflyte and Nike Pegasus and peg turno. On the lateral (outside) of my foot down the side of the foot burns and feels like it’s all cramped up and hurts so much, when I took my shoes of I couldn’t walk. Adidas Boost saved me! Currently do all my training miles in Boston 7 and racing in the adios 3. Boost is so soft and amazing while still staying stable, it’s really helped me so much and as much as other brands look like they have got the same as boost, it’s just something else! Good luck
