I often hear that you cannot run competitively and build muscle(bulk) simultaneously. A lot of reason I hear people give for this is because of some catabolic state or something about burning muscle for fuel. However I think that there is a way to do both if you can take advantage of your energy systems being used...mabye. Last two seasons I barely did any running and probably ran a couple 2 mile runs twice a week as I trained with the sprinters and did occasional mid-distance workouts. Currently in XC I am running somewhere around 30-35 mpw. It will probably increase until winter track rolls around in which case I'll probably train more speed and decrease my mileage. My main goals in track are to hit around sub 53 400 and sub 2:00 800 and my main goals in the gym is to reach 165ibs muscle at 5'8. I doubt I will run the 1600m that much and I could care less about my marks in XC if that helps. I usually consume around 3000 calories a day and am thinking of uping it to 5000. I also take Whey, Creatine, Multivitamin, Preworkout, and sometimes BCAA's. Is there any supplements that will help my body recover after a long run so I don't burn any mass? I usually rest 7 hours between running and the gym. I do both 5 days a week(Mon-Fri) and each session is around 60-90min. The bodybuilding program I do is very advanced as I try to mimick the routines of models such as Jeff Seid, Steve Cook, etc. I try to hit around an 8-12 rep range. My maxes for my compound lifts are bench-(185x5) squat-(155x10) deadlift-(185x8) overhead-(115x6) and I noticed they are going down and I am getting weaker. I have doing aesthetic bodybuilding longer than I have been running. I do not want to have to choose and want to pursue both through the rest of highschool and college. Do you think it is possible to hit these marks by spring track or will I end up slowly running myself to the ground? What supplements can I take to counter losing mass? Is the muscle really going to slow me down over a measly 1 or 2 lap race? What should I do? I am really passionate about both and train at my hardest. Please Help.
P.S. PR's this past season- 800(2:08) 400(58) 600(1:35) 1600(5:05) 100(12.3) 200(26.8) If that helps
