More Mo Farah - Andy Vernon drama - Farah tells Vernon to "F*** off" after Lausanne win

Weldon did cop to taking a drug that was prohibited so the accusations are actually true. Of course, truth doesn't really matter on this site.

I find it interesting that you reserve the the primary sting of your rebuke for Farrah here. Their troubles began in private, but Vernon is the one who chose to make it public. I wish that Farrah had not taken his bate, but I can also sympathize with him. As person of color in the UK, I have been on the receiving of subtle and not-so subtle race-bating from "mates" over my entire life. On the one occasion when, in a work place, I decided to let a larger audience become aware of what was happening, the overwhelming response was "don't out him for joking around like that mate, he didn't mean anything by it." Well, that showed me how deeply ingrained racism is in the UK, and it's almost worse when it comes from "good blokes" like Andy Vernon. He's not an overt racist, but his comments show that he is still willing to pull colonial rank when he feels insecure. So, while I wish Farrah had just ignored him, I definitely think Vernon made his bed here. The rest of you just don't understand what it's like to be constantly teased about being "different". Whatever Farrah's other faults are, this issue is larger than track, and Vernon should apologize. He never will though, which is a shame.

Mo keeps saying he's going to take the high road, then doesn't. I have some sympathy for Mo, but this latest round of their spat leaves me with a diminished opinion of both of them.

I have some sympathy with your frustration about both of them. But as a black guy who grew up in London, who has kept his mouth shut hundreds of times after being told I was not a "a real Brit" and then had to shake their hands later, part of me wants to say f-off to Vernon. He and so many other Brits should know better, but they just don't care to try and experience this from another perspective. Of course, it would be better if Mo kept quiet.

I spoke with a fellow the other day who said "why can't Mo be like Jackie Robinson in the US who was just kept quiet and took all that racist crap when he was signed by the Major League teams?" What I pointed out in response was, that Robinson was asked to keep quiet for a while, but that he could let loose after a season or so. Robinson did eventually lash out verbally. This was not known or reported at the time because there was already a media script that they wanted to write about Robinson. To a certain extent that was a good script about heroic stoic Robinson. However, it also showed that a black man is always supposed to be held to a different standard than a white man.

This is also a story about social media. Without twitter this would have stayed private, for better or worse. It's not pretty to read about and I feel sorry for both athletes--and for the sport--but--as I said--I think Vernon should truly apologize, if not to Mo, for saying something that is hurtful to many black Britons.

Race has NOTHING to do with my "rebuke" of Farah. Farah is the gold medalist, Farah is a world champion. Farah is a role model. You would expect him to take a high road. I expect him to act better. You would never see Haile act like this. Never. Not mentioned Farah made a big show in Feb where he apologized for the earlier row with Vernon and said he "learned his lesson"I suggest you are excusing Farah's behavior. Perhaps because of your race. You think you are the only one who grew up different. It's a lazy excuse. I said both runners were acting like idiots. You seem to have missed that.

I just now saw the 6 photos of Farah winning the race yesterday, and they are freaking hilarious!!!!! reminiscent of Coe after the '84 1500, but in spades.

Because I earned my B.A, M.A. and Ph.D. in the Unites States. They have airplanes that go across the Atlantic.
