Real runners don't drive hybrids.
Great ride if you drive lots of miles. Fun to see what kind of mileage you can get.
I have had one for two years. Nice, quiet drive. No issues so far. I've averaged 47 mph the entire time I've had it. With the hatchback, you can put quite a lot in the car. You won't have the same pick up as in other cars but it's not a big deal.
No it isn't. It depends on where you drive the miles. If its all in congested city traffic, then its a great buy. If you are on the open highway or freeway a lot, don't buy one.

This is actually a simple yet stupid and funny troll. I like it.
4/10
My wife bought a Prius in 2007, I bought one in 2013. Her model gets ~48 mpg all year. Hiway. urban does not matter. For mine, I have gotten 57 mpg for the 26k miles I have put on it since April 2013. When we went to Yellowstone, with speed limits below 45, I was never below 62 mpg, while there. We both love our Prius and would buy them again without question.

By the way my 5 km PR is 14:52 from 1969
Sweet. You'll get some leg for sure.

Assuming this isn't a troll.
I have a 2013 Prius V, which is the larger model. It's roomier up front and has a lot of space in the back, especially with the seats down. It's been a great car and I'd recommend it if you want to be able to haul anything around, including people.
I get about 40mpg average now living in Iowa where I do a lot of highway driving with speed limits ~70mph. Living in Baltimore where I did a lot of city driving or highway driving at lower speeds, I sometimes got up to 50mpg, averaged probably 46.
You will get better mileage in the city as someone mentioned, but he's wrong that it's "not worth it" for highway. I still get 40mpg highway with a car nearly as large as my crossover SUV, which is better than any other car this size. And when I drive in the city it's even better. Further yet, it's a quiet smooth ride, which I like.
Never met someone who doesn't like their Prius.
My 5k pr is only 16:23 so take my advice for what it's worth.

My wife commutes on the highway and gets 46-49 mpg.
Depending on your budget and hauling needs are, there certainly are less expensive cars that get good mpg. I have a Toyota Yaris (5 MT) and routinely get 42-45mpg on the highway and a bit less in stop-and-go driving. Mileage does go down during our cold winters, however. I looked at a Prius as well, but it was a bit too big for my needs.
You cannot beat a Prius for city driving. In stop and go traffic, I can get 70-80 mpg while in a civic the mpg drops below 30 mpg. On the highway, mpg will vary depending on conditions. On a flat road with no wind or a tailwind, mpg will be 50-60. On a hilly highway or into the wind, mpg will be 45-48 mpg. If you are a big penny pincher and do a lot of highway driving, a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla will be a better value. But if you drive a lot in the city or in heavy traffic, Prius is great.
Dealers are running 0% financing for a Prius, which is a great deal if you plan on driving the wheels off it.
In automotive circles (ratings, magazines, etc), the Prius is known as a poor handling, noisy, powerless car...that gets great mpg, is surprisingly roomy and has the Toyota aura of quality going for it. People that buy them would never admit it is slow, noisy, and handles horribly (it's "the car that doesn't like to turn"). But most of those folks aren't what I would car "car people".
So, it's a roomy vehicle that gets good mpg. Nothing more.
I have a hybrid as well. I sacrificed a few mpg for much more power, a quiet cabin, and superior handling. You don't always know that you're driving a hybrid. With a Prius, you always know. And it's not always fun.
My parents had a Prius for 3 months. Some dude went through a red light and hit them...not even that hard. No injuries, but the very little visible damage was enough to total the car...damaged the frame. Very fragile that Prius. They got the full price back on the car and got themselves a fully-loaded Subaru Legacy instead. THAT is a sweet car.
