This pretty much proves to me that any of Goucher's negative statements about Salazar and NOP are dishonest or suspect at best. She didn't really have much in the way of evidence anyway.

The Nike break up must not have been pretty. Kara talked about going elsewhere when her contract was up. Nike had a right of first refusal with Kara and had to release her in order for her to be able to go to competitor. Nike must not have been willing to match whatever she was being offered at the time. Just imagine if Nike is paying you seven figures for years and then low balls you when your contract is up. Nike dropped Meb for being too old. The cold hearted capitalist at Nike were probably not very touchy feelie when negotiating with Kara.

Kara then signs up with Oiselle. Her arrangement with them has been described as "unconventional". I suspect that they gave her stock (Sally describes her as a "business partner" in the press release announcing Kara coming to Oiselle). That is all start-ups have. So, if Oiselle can get even a small piece of Nike's market share, Kara could really rake it in if she got stock for her endorsement deal.

I have also heard that Salazar could be merciless with Kara in training. Let's just say that he was not the kind of coach to say: "you look awesome out there!!!" Salazar would motivate by trying to get his athletes pissed off at him. That kind of coaching can get results, but it can also foster resentment down the road when you realize that you probably did not have to be miserable in practice in order to improve. Jerry Schumacher is very much the anti-Salazar. Kara may have come to find Salazar's coaching to be more abusive that constructive when she left and started chasing Shalane around with Schumacher's group.

But, I think more than anything, she just did not want to bite the Nike hand that fed her. If she went public in 2011 with allegations, Nike might dump her if the allegations turned out to be untrue. Now that she has Sketchers and Oiselle, she does not have to worry about losing her paycheck.

It is a valid point that she has made a big about face.

You might not be wrong in what you think of her 2015 comments.

But surely the old quote isn't proof.

(Nor is Salazar's old quote PROOF).

Seriously, aren't we all taught when we go to interview for a new job we speak well of our old employer, whether the experience was good or not? It could simply be that she is demonstrating what a great asset she will be for any coach's group/sponsors.

Also, isn't it plausible to have mixed feelings? Her bitterness now is not incompatible with her gratitude then.

I have to compliment you (and I mean that sincerely) for emphasizing when your conjecture is simply that. Most people here are into absolutist statements concerning the NOP issues, with the confidence with which they say them being inversely proportional to the underlying logic.

As for the OP's doubts, it's just not difficult to believe that someone would ignore a lot of serious, even glaring problems when things were going mostly OK, and then have a major shift in attitude, if not necessarily knowledge, a couple of years later, and decide it was time to clean house. What happened between the time the Gouchers left the NOP and Feb. 2013, when they went to WADA, will likely remain a public mystery for some time yet, and may have involved a lot of Kara and Adam exchanging stories with others who had by then left the program of the not-so-great aspects of their experiences.

She already had a contract with Nike and was part of a new group when she voluntarily gushed about Alberto and all he's done for her.

We all can see that she's bitter now and was praising Alberto four years ago -- after the events that she claimed upset her so much. Her voluntary gushing praise of Alberto was incompatible with what she now claims she felt at the time. It makes her claims suspect at best.

I'm waiting to see if she comes up with something concrete as opposed to some passionate blog post without evidence directly related to doping, TUE's and drugs.

In your Brit pee-brain, it is acceptable to ignore Salazar's personal attacks on a woman. That makes anything Salazar claims suspect. But, Salazar has used personal attacks since he was in college. That is who the real Salazar is: a bully, a sexist, an egotist, and a lot of other ugly things.

Most women mix emotions and money. They love their master who feeds them and hate him when he doesn't.

By "mostly okay" I meant that 2011 was a good, though not "career," running year and also the year in which she describes friction and reservations she was keeping to herself at the time. I'm not questioning the effectiveness of Salazar's coaching with her, whatever the methods.

I really don't think enough people have looked closely at the last thing you said there.

Yes, it's impossible to believe that she'd be gushing with admiration and eternal gratitude in a voluntary blog post shortly at she claims to be so upset with purported unethical practices. If she was really so upset, she could have just said nothing or even just written some boilerplate 'thank you.'
