So I assume Cram and Coe are as well?
"He set his lifetime PRs in the 800 and 1500 in 2014.
He PRed in the 1500 in Doha and won the 1500 in Brussels.
He PRed in the 800 in Berlin finishing second behind Aman."
-that's my mistake then. Thanks for clarifying those facts.

I think the 800m split is 1:46.0-1:46.1
He got pretty much perfect splits for a 2:13.1:
~ 52.8, 53.3, 27.0 (+/- 0.1)
The 800m split is actually 1:46.3. You can hear the coach yelling "quarante-six trois" which means "forty-six three" The announcers repeat it a few seconds after that.

His 200 splits looked to be, c. 26.8, 26.0, (52.8), 27.2, (1:19.0), 27.3 (1:46.3), 26.7.
The 800m split is likely to be the least accurate however, due to a time keeper/coach, moving right in front of the camera
Funnily enough, you got it exactly right. You can hear the coach calling out the 800 in split in the video.
The thing I'm most impressed with is that Rick Wohlhuter still has the 8th fastest time, 40+ years later. There have been threads on him, but he just never has gotten the recognition he deserves. Great runner, fun to watch.
how do you know? are you an expert? EPO makes more oxygen available to muscles, right? the 800m-1000m becomes a highly anaerobic event...so the farther you can push the anaerobic moment in the the future, the better right? wouldn't EPO help delay anaerobic is any sport or physical activity?respectfully, i'd like for you to illuminate this notion and tell me more science please, because you've provided zero reasoning.

The 1000m is too short for blood doping to be effective unless we are talking global championships where it will help during rounds
Makloufi is too heavy to be utilising the weight loss /muscle building thyroid /growth hormone combo
Very dirty. Don't care though, so is everyone else.
Nothing personal JAKIR. Do you think he lied about being "injured" after the 800 qualifier DQ in London? If you answer yes, then you admit he is a liar at least. Not necessarily a doper, but a liar. If you answer no, then you have zero credibility because we all know he was lying. Tough spot for you. Please keep the comedic posts coming nonetheless.

Yeah, I suspect a lot of the suspicion about him concerns his admittedly meteoric rise just at the times of the 2012 Olympics. And if he had completely disappeared after that, then I'd be very much inclined to agree.
But he has stuck around and run some good times and been competitive in plenty of races. And realistically, in hindsight that Olympic final was very strange. The favorites were injured or off their game and all of the top places would have been upset picks.
I wouldn't be surprised if he is doping, but that's true of pretty much any athlete at this point. He fits the profile of a talented young guy who was lucky enough to have his breakout season at the right time.
I think this summarises the situation quite well!
Makhloufi's 2:13.08 was an almost perfect performance for him I think. Very good conditions; very good pacing; almost perfect intermediate times; wasn't hindered in any way (hasn't lost a tenth even when clipping on shoulder of the last PM). 2:13.08 is around what you should expect from an 800/1500m guy like Makhloufi when going just for the time (like he did in this race). Unfortunately we don't see such races very often nowadays. I think he also will improve his 1500m PB soon (not sure about the 800m).
But I think it was his first ever 1000m race. Hopefully he will give it another try. As said, I think it really was an almost perfect race for him, but still there should be some tenth to improve (also the WR seems out of reach). But Nr 3 on the all-time list should be possible! I know that most runners don't think like that, but to me it definitely would be a great goal to surpass the great Steve Cram!
I think 1000m is a great distance. Unfortunately we almost see no record attempts for many years. Maybe this race is some sort of transformation here (like Jens Voigt last year for the cycling hour record). Ngeny's WR is good, but not on a par to all the other (men's) distance WRs.

I have no doubt he was injured, anyone trying to train/race both 800/1500 have a high chance of injury. Ask any elite 800/1500 if they're 100% injury free and many will answer they have a niggle here, a tweak there.
The real question is how injured was he?
The real answer is, injured enough to compromise a shot at a single event medal, so why be greedy/foolish and run both? He (or his coach) played it smart. Simple as that. And i liked the fact that he stayed on the track and cheered on his competitors!
I am extremely impressed!
Not so much by the time, because a strength-based 1:44x type can achieve that time, but he closed as fast as he went out. Also, he didn't appear to be grasping for air and no wobble in his legs like you would expect to see at the end of an 800m type race. What's really weird is that his feet hit the ground like a 10K runner, which is efficient aerobically, but not for generating speed.
I am going to be the first to say, the 1500m world record might go down this year. Perhaps I am going out on a limb, but from watching that race, he is obviously going to drop a monster 1500m this year.

- whatever you think you know about physiology and its respective relation to various performance enhancing drugs, just let go of it. It's all wrong. Your above statement is pretty asinine.
Mak Flukey strikes again
Makes me think of Abubaker Kaki's fast 1K in Eugene, 2010.
http://preclassic.runnerspace.com/eprofile.php?event_id=120&do=videos&video_id=29924
Was billed as a world record attempt by Kaki. Not close in the end: 2:13.62
Still 8th fastest time, 6th fastest performer all time, though.
He did seem to get good pacemaking (or good in the sense of fast ... most 1Ks set up to be fast that I've seen, the pacemakers are way too slow from the beginning) in this race, but stayed well off the rabbits, especially 600-800m.
Splits were 24.8/50.8/1:17.8/1:45.53 Having to guess a bit for 200 and 600, since no official time was given on screen.
This race was about a month after Kaki ran 1:42.2 in Oslo (second to Rudisha ... with silly splits of 48.97/1:15.05.
Kaki was a 1:42.2 and 3:31.7 guy (and only ran 2 serious 1500m in his career). Makhloufi is nearly 0.6 sec faster than Kaki now.
Kaki tried the 1K more than any other runner in recent memory, but still I think he could have gone under 2:13.
It seems like often he wasn't mentally commited in many of his races (often requesting face paces and not going with them, dropping out seemingly without cause, etc) and watching the above 1K I feel like that was the case in the middle of the race.
I also think Makhloufi could go a tad faster, but not beyond (or really close, in the end) to the WR, as I think at least one person here has suggested.
Mahk-daddy is a squinty-eyed sand rat and he's going down soon if the drug authorities don't nail his slimy butt first. No way the dude performs on that level without synthetic help. Kiprop, on the other hand, will hand Mahk-daddy his lunch when real money is on the line. Dudes got serious talent, Mahk-daddy just has a good chemist. Kiprop will silence the lion and make him look like a clown fish.
the 1000m record s one of the strongest records.
proper pacing is a misnomer due to individual differences
