The 1000m is too short for blood doping to be effective unless we are talking global championships where it will help during rounds
Makloufi is too heavy to be utilising the weight loss /muscle building thyroid /growth hormone combo
Was he tested for EPO at that race? He was barely winded. What a scumbag.
Wow, result of the season so far!
I know some people will not agree, but in my book this is roughly equal to the top times of Kiprop/Kiplagat in the 1500m.
Clearly Makh-daddy is coming from the speed side of the spectrum.
I always assume that you have to subtract 30 seconds for an 800m equivalent.
Works quite fine in this top range of times.
So, 2:13.08 --> 1:43.08
(2:12.18 --> 1:42.18
2:12.88 --> 1:42.88 !!
2:11.96 --> 1:41.96)
I think the 800m split is 1:46.0-1:46.1
He got pretty much perfect splits for a 2:13.1:
~ 52.8, 53.3, 27.0 (+/- 0.1)

He has excellent drafting to, I think, 1:38, quite close, but the pacers held him back (the second pacer was always back of the first pacer a fair amount), and he finally taps the second pacer and goes on. He looks fairly controlled. I think that he does have a good shot at breaking Ngeny's world record or at least getting very close to it. Going slower the first 200 then the next is unusual and not ideal--you're using your ATP shot in that first 10 seconds or so. The splits were not determined by his fitness but by what his pacers were doing--he was right on them and could have gone faster. Finally, he does pick back up, especially the last 100m. 3:28 is definitely in play for Paris if conditions are not scorching.
I really think the splits were pretty even for the real world. His last 200m was c.26.7-26.9, so he wasn't really 'picking back up' the pace in the last 100m, which was c. 13.4. He might have looked faster in comparison to the less talented athletes behind him, but in actuality he just maintained the 13.4 pace he was operating at round the last bend. If he had a lot left then his last 100m would have been faster.
I think he lucked out with even pace and drafting up to 740m. I don't think he's a threat to the WR
People forget that the first 200 split shouldn't be too fast, as it's with a standing start. I think sometimes it's actually an advantage to go off a bit slower. 26.8/26.0 is actually pretty even running.
As a side note, Makhloufi was never in 1:42/3:26 shape in London. The rest of that 1500 field were not at their bests for a variety of reasons. He ran in paced races at both distances after the games and run nothing approaching those times. He even got beat in one. You don't lose that much form in the space of a couple of weeks, unless you were being propped up by some drug combo.
Makhloufi was in 1:43.0/3:29.5 form in London max.

Ah yes.
He surpassed the legendary Kennedy Kimwetich on the all time list.
c'mon, guys. use your heads here. you really think that was not aided? look at how relaxed he is that last bit- zero strain. as v^3 mentioned, he's clearly sub 3.30 right now. this coming from the Olympic champion that has been a ghost over the last 2 seasons. even his post Olympic season, he did not race much. he was destroyed in Eugene over a mile in 2013, hardly raced in 2014 aside from some lackluster performances, and then 2015 this? funny to see iguider give him a hug on the track post race. this is a travesty.

I would be quite inclined to agree. Not to say that the life of a distance or mid distance runner isn't filled with peaks and valleys but amongst all the current talk about potential dopers, I don't know how he's not being brought up in every single conversation.

He set his lifetime PRs in the 800 and 1500 in 2014.
He PRed in the 1500 in Doha and won the 1500 in Brussels.
He PRed in the 800 in Berlin finishing second behind Aman.
If you look at his last 4 years, 2013 was his only down year.
Not saying he's clean, just getting the known facts straight.

Yes. This may come down to who has the better doctors.
My money is on Salazar here.
Epstein says in his book that some meaningful percentage of people can use actual steroids and test negative - some weird genetic feature. I would not be surprised if he were one of those.
"it is quite feasible that half of the athletes about to dive into the water — perhaps as many as six out of eight depending on whether they are Chinese, Japanese, Korean or from another background — also have bodies that naturally allow them to take drugs but not get caught.
Astonishing though it sounds, significant numbers of sportsmen and women are born to dope, and get away with it. The proportion ranges from around one in 10 of those with European ancestry to one in five with African heritage, and up to a staggering two-thirds of people in some Asian countries, notably Korea."

CENTROWITZ NEED EXTRAS TO DEFEAT PROUD LION OF SOUK AHRAS!!! THEY ARE ALL CHEATERS AND LIARS!!!
Yeah, I suspect a lot of the suspicion about him concerns his admittedly meteoric rise just at the times of the 2012 Olympics. And if he had completely disappeared after that, then I'd be very much inclined to agree.
But he has stuck around and run some good times and been competitive in plenty of races. And realistically, in hindsight that Olympic final was very strange. The favorites were injured or off their game and all of the top places would have been upset picks.
I wouldn't be surprised if he is doping, but that's true of pretty much any athlete at this point. He fits the profile of a talented young guy who was lucky enough to have his breakout season at the right time.

The africans have actual doctors (many are cardiologists) as coaches/agents. They're much more advanced than amateur doper Alberto.
Like me, how many people scrolled through this thread to see if you would weigh in? I truly enjoy your posts. I know it's hard for you (and your camp), but keep it clean so the mods don't delete.
They aren't upset that I'm coming. They are acting that way because they are nervous and excited (in a good way).
Tables will be of less value in a less contested event like this. Look at the guys on the list and the kind of shape they demonstrated around that time frame.
