Is Andrews going for the 3:36.2 qualifying time?

I don't see why he would race and not go for it? I just would hate to see this turn into a jogfest.

For some reason, I can't see Andrews leading a step of any race until 200 to go regardless of the circumstance. No doubt he wants the standard, but if there's no rabbit and the race starts slow, I don't see Andrews forcing the pace.

Compare this to Jager and Heath - both strength runners who want a fast pace. Andrews and Ches are the complete opposite. These guys won't sniff 3:33 if they aren't willing to do the work. Even with a rabbit, I see 3:35 at the absolutely fastest.

Andrews and it won't be that close.

Ches can dominate NCAA competition but pro competition is on another level.

I would say Ches has proven himself a competitor with the ability to close the deal and make the win. If we trace back to Lawi's exit from the NCAA, you'll see a guy who more-or-less dominated the NCAA and then stepped beyond it from 3:36/13:18 (Ches shape) to 3:33/13:03 (Pro shape).

Unless some more high profile athletes enter this race, I can see Andrews pulling out at the last minute. I can't see Andrews running a fast race where he has to sets the pace. I am a big Ches fan, but he is only a national class 1500m runner and will probably be a 5K/10K guy at the next level.

They'll be racing at Lewis and Clark this Thursday.

I think that he is going to try to run fast here once and over in Europe once before shutting it down. Probably the 1500 here and a 5k in Europe. Oregon wont have him race until regionals. Everything else will be a tempo for him.

I don't see the point of either of them racing if they aren't going to go for a fast time.

Robby needs a qualifier and Chez has been held back all year. Time to let one rip.

Neither of them need anymore sit and kick races.

Hmmm. Will they actually be racing the whole 1500 (Chez) or jogging 1200 and racing 300 (Andrews)?

Other entrants are Noelle, Alexander and Haney. Definitely a 2nd tier race. Doubt Andrews gets his qualifier here, but who knows. Why else would he be entered?

This Thursday's Portland meet is a preview of what Vin has in mind for a summer series of meets next year.

It offers one last opportunity for the USATF athletes to compete before heading to Europe.

Andrews will be running to hit the WC Q time.

Don't be surprised if Chez has just been recruited by meet organizers to rabbit the race for 1k or so.
