I used to run all the time in high school: breaking records here and there at my school, eventually getting myself into a scholarship at a D1 cc/track program.
I destroyed my achilles in college (i believe due to overtraining) which sidelined me for one year. I tried to start running at the end of college but just wasn't into it anymore.
However, now I'm training for a Marathon and absolutely love running again. I'm trying to figure out which program would work best for me though and was looking for some professional advice from you all, or any opinions you had.
JD Plan A - Seems like a bit much. I've never ran above 80 miles a week before and feel like if I was going to I'd need like half a year just to get up there! But, I basically grew up on JD (not that JD haha) and his training has always worked well for me. Especially the 5k.
Advanced Marathoning 55-70mpw (sub 3:00) - Seems like a lot of just mileage with no real thought towards marathon pacing. It seems like only 20% of weekly mileage is devoted to specific work. This concerns me.
Hansons Marathon Method - From a distance, this looks like the way to go. I never really liked going farther than 16 miles and something like 50% of the weeks mileage is at paces faster or just on M-pace, which I like. I also come from a 5k background so, of course, I'm drawn to the faster plans. However, it seems like the training is a bit intense and only offers 1 day of rest which is concerning.
Those are the only ones I've been looking into. I own all three of these books and understand their mentalities but I need your opinions on how these differing aspects of training have affected you! Thank you for your replies!
