What's the source for this? Need to know so I can change my picks if I have to
That's awful if true. Even if she probably won't medal at Worlds, she is giving up an easy-ish (Rowbury is also obviously good if she does the 5K) American championship to add to her collection.
She looked good in the 10,000M, so I doubt she's hurt.

Thanks!
Do you guys think Rowbury is likely to stay in the 5K?

Do I? Absolutely not. Her chances of medalling at 5k are VERY tiny. It could cost her a spot in the 1500. No point.
Huddle had already said she would probably not do the 5K if the 10K went well. This is not news.

X, Rojo's rope-a-doping you. Don't fall for that tactic. Remember the Mike Rossi thread and the "we can't trace IP addresses" rouge, Rojo is not beyond deception. Go with Rowbury.
This athlete has been looking extremely promising. I wouldn't waste worry. Educated fans will agree.

This. Anyone who has listened to any of Huddle's interviews knew that this would happen. Her focus is on 10k
Great racing!
Hasay wouldn't have made the team even at the top of her game. Infield has made a jump. Huddle moved to the right event and Shalane is looking good.
The 10 has been a weak U.S. event with the exception of Shalane. Tide has shifted.

I don't know what the original schedule was, but I feel like this version of events favors Rowbury scratching the 5k. It seems to us (at least me) that it would be pretty relaxed for her to run it and get a spot, and then gear up for the 1500 several hours later. However, the 1500 is gonna be a dog fight (or her getting beat up by Jenny and claiming second), and I think she has shown that her passion still lies in that event. Furthermore, 2013 was a good example of how things can go wrong in the 1500 and I don't know if she would want to risk that. I predict she scratches the 5k after the 1500 rounds as well.

I think the original schedule had the 5K closer to the 1500, almost back-to-back. Now the 5K is in the morning. This gives her more time to recover if she really wants to run it. But I don't know if she will.
My original picks were Huddle/Rowbury/Infeld and now Huddle is out, Rowbury might be out, and I have no idea how Infeld is going to feel after putting up such a great fight in the 10000. I wish USATF actually updated the start list online based on scratches.
Also holy sh*t a tree just fell outside in my yard as I was writing this

She has a much better shot at medaling in the 10. She would just be an also ran in the 5. Making a run at the AR can still come later in the year. Besides...it's dang hot in Oregon right now.

Her chances of medaling in the 1500 aren't much better, even though she's done it before.
I would think that the opportunity to win a national title is plenty of motivation. Now that Huddle is out of the 5,000m, her chances just rose by quite a bit there -- but Flanagan, even not fresh, poses a big obstacle there.
When is the last time those two raced against each other in anything? Pre Classic 1,500m a long time ago, maybe?

They have to have met more recently, but in 2010 they ran the 5,000 at Payton Jordan. Flanagan lead by 6 seconds for most of the race. Rowbury cut that down to 4 seconds on the penultimate lap, and then ran Flanagan down. She won by almost 4 seconds.
The video's worth a look, especially the last lap when Alberto sprints across the infield to give advice to Flanagan.

*Schumacher
Nice vid and maybe a little foreshadowing for the 5k.

Duh!!! Of course it was Schumacher. What was I thinking?
You have to think that's how the 5k will go down on Sunday.
I kept thinking about that race last night during the 10,000. As Yogi Berra would say, watching Flanagan click off the laps knowing she was likely to get outkicked in the end, felt like deja vu all over again.
