The only scholarship you get is a bottle of Wild Irish Rose and a six pack of Natty Boh.
Sub 4 in the mile and sub 1:45 in the 800m.
ask Gavin Kennedy at Wisconsin
Depends on the school, and how much scholarship your looking to get. If your a good xc guy and running under 406/3:49 there are going to be some places that give u a full ride

Why wouldn't you start by asking the plethora of Irish runners who have been through the US college system?
Depends on what level of college you are trying to get into. I attend and run at a smaller division 1 college in a mid major conference. We look for anyone who runs 15:40-16:15 in the 5k.

Be a top finisher at junior nationals in cross and track, tell national coach/admin. you wanna go to the states, seek out Ray Treacy; send notes to Providence ; East Tenn. State,, be proactive, don't expect a full ride.
Leave your email address. I know some Irish coaches here in the US. I can pass along your email to them if you want.
What is your 5k time turkey?
First run 3:45 for the 1500 and 1:47 for the 800 and then call Marcus O'Sullivan at Villanova.
I wish it were that easy for Marcus, believe me. None of these recent top-shelf Irish recruits went to Villanova: Mark English, Ciara Mageean, Ciaran O'Lionaird, Colin Costello -- all of whom I believe were recruited heavily.
Fact is, Marcus hasn't had a male runner from Ireland since Richie Corcoran (who never ran 3:45 or 1:47), who graduated in 2008. Indeed, until Siofra Cleirigh-Buttner arrived last fall, Villanova hadn't had a female Irish runner since Geraldine McCarthy (who graduated in 2001). Not much of an Irish pipeline in recent decades. I hope the situation changes!
As everyone knows, Villanova certainly does recruit internationally (see recent imports Tiernan, Williamsz, McEntee, Slade, Gibney, Mildenhall, Mackenzie, Beamish, Blincoe, Reid, and so on). But none of these folks are Irish. Perhaps the arrival of Siofra Cleirigh-Buttner will start a new trend and Marcus can lure a few more Irish harriers to Villanova.

Pity. Looks like the Irish pipeline pretty much ended with Jumbo.
Getting into a "good" college in the U.S. could also depend on such things as being able to spell "scholarship" correctly.
Villanova just signed an Irishman for 2015, Harry Purcell a 400/800 runner.
Yep -- this was brewing for about a year. Happy that it's comiong to fruition. Over the past year or so Purcell has been coached in Dublin by Eamonn Coghlan. Purcell is a 47.33 / 1:49.42 guy.
For the first time in 20 years -- when Ken Nason and Emer Molloy were teammates in the early-to-mid 1990s -- Villanova will have an Irish athlete of both genders on the team at the same time.
