Why'd Allie ostrander not run the 2 mile at brooks pr? It would've been a great matchup between her and Anna!

She's been injured and wasn't sure if she'd be ready to go or not. Ended up deciding she wasn't healthy enough to race.
Milesplit article about it (preview of the potential showdown):

Thanks coach!
That is too bad. These exceptional athletes should not run these meaningless HS races, too much chance for injury. There is a lot to be said for the path Cain, and Efraimson took. A lot of HS coaches do not know how to handle these athletes. Also they are under no obligation, not like a scholarship College runner. Hopefully she will be handled correctly in College.
Yes, cause Cain has developed so nicely under Alberto. She probably would be unbeatable right now how she stayed with her high school coach and focused on being a good teammate. The all about me mindset doesn't always produce the best talent, a lot of times it ruins it.
That being said, someone with Allie O's ability should have a controlled schedule with a focus on the end of the season.
Who's her track coach?
Ran 3 races at state, 800 (but prelim and final), 1600, and 3200. Did race a lot this year. That hip bursitis is tough to shake so hope that she is smart and rests up until it has cleared. It might take a month or two plus some good PT.
Best of luck to her in college, had a great HS career and is easily GOAT high school girl for Alaska.

Good point about being a good teammate. I'm sick of those selfish Canadian teenaged hockey players and those "me first" British youth soccer players that leave home and go professional- they would have been much more successful if they had focused on being good teammates in their local community and shown some gratitude for the excellent coaches at their local schools instead of rushing off to be a professional in their sport, as if they have total freedom to pursue a career like that.
These high school runners push themselves way beyond their capacity. They do great in hs and then bomb in college. Not sure if they are internationals or runners under the radar but some of the best college and professional runners are hs unknowns. Not wishing this on anyone. It just seems to be an unfortunate trend.
Okay so she wasn't healthy enough to race at Brooks I understand that. What I don't understand is why did she compete in that mountain marathon in Alaska on the fourth? Why didn't she take a break and rest? If she had hip issues at Brooks I would assume running up an incline of 3,000 feet wouldnt make her hips feel better... It's a shame she would go to a meet like Brooks, get all the free gear and experiences, and not compete, and then wear the gear from Brooks at the mountain race. Some kids I just don't understand.
She picked Boise State over Oregon lol her loss damn now we'll probably never hear of her again.

Oh, man, she's going to become the next Emma Bates!
Speaking of whom, what did happen to her???
How injuried was she? wrote:

I was thinking the same thing about her racing up a mountain. There goes her cross country season. Hopefully, we are wrong.
As far as the Brooks race, I think she fully hoped to compete but her hip just wasn't going to let it happen. I don't really blame her for that. I am sure she would have preferred competing vs sitting on the sidelines with all her free gear.
She won the junior race 5 or 6 times. It's a huge deal there. It is more prestigious than All-American and perhaps even an NCAA title to those folks.

She won the junior race like 6 years in a row. This was the first year in the open race and she ran 2 seconds faster than the old course record but was beaten by Emelie F.

While that may be true for those in Alaska, how much will her state records, her high school team's wins this year, and even her Nike Cross Nationals win matter once yes starts running at Boise? Everyone would like to be able to look back on a successful high school career like hers but it is also important to keep looking and moving forward. Her teammates, coaches, and Boise fans will all care much more about her health, fitness, and performance going forward. I hope she recovered enough from the hip injury before the mountain race and did not do any lasting damage to her body during the race. I wish for her to have a successful career at Boise too.
Maybe the Mount Marathon race is almost as important as running in college to Allie.

"The difficult and treacherous Mount Marathon race was so important to Ostrander that it was part of her recruiting process with college coaches if she would be allowed to still compete in the race each summer on her future college team. Allie was hoping to find the right school and coach, which would also be okay for her continued participation in Mount Marathon through college. Not a deal breaker, but being allowed to still race Mount Marathon was certainly a nice bonus."
The MM is a huge thing here. The entire town/region is either running or cheering. Allie O has a major backing, and we all support her in AK. Go Allie!
