Wind legal, national record!
Wind legal, national record!
One of the all-time great high school performances... as a sophomore.
Candace rather than Candice!
Why do Americans take regular names then misspell them?
Another eg Natosha
Dopers starting younger BTW
Incredible performance. Watching it online was not as incredible. Had to hit mute for most of the live webcast because it was brutal and when I finally turn the sound on after the 100 they don't even know the rules about a 2.0 wind being legal. Fans make bad commentators. Invest in a professional or it just sounds like two track nerds talking and getting all giddy. Plus they don't know the names of the athletes. Frustrating to watch.
I do not see her name in the start lists for either junior or seniors at USAs, for womens 100?
e.g.,
Hill and Williams are running the Youth Championships, not the JR.

Why not run in the US Champs? Is there an age requirement? The standard is 11.33.
Damn that is one fast Soph wow she is fast enough to run for Oregon now.
Maybe she just wants to run fast without the drug program at Oregon. Hard to believe anyone of quality would want to get involved with that given the scandal.

Nothing wrong with this spelling:
"Candace of Meroë is a legendary queen of the Kingdom of Kush, with its capital in Meroë. The legend says that she defeated Alexander the Great when he tried to conquer territories south of Egypt. References to this warrior queen are among the earliest made to the Nubian Kentakes."

Not sure if you're aware of this but this has happened all throughout the world for as long as people have had names.
For instance: Wilhelm (German)
William (Anglo-Saxon)
Will/Willy (Anglo-Saxon Nickname)
Bill/Billy (Anglo-Saxon Nickname)
Guillaume (French)
Guillermo (Spanish)
Liam (Irish)
Vilhelm (Danish, Norwegian, Romanian, Swedish)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_(given_name)
So just so you're aware, this isn's something that's solely attributed to Americans. Every culture does this.

Thank you for starting this thread. I was walking out the door for the evening when I got a text about fisher losing. As I know head to bead I scrolled through the rest of the results and saw 10.98/for a sophomore. Wow.
Sub 11 as a tenth grader? Is that the greatest hs performance ever in like all events. Certainly since the founding if Letsrun??? How does that compare to webbs 353?
http://usatodayhss.com/2015/candace-hill-becomes-first-high-school-girl-to-ever-break-11-seconds-in-100-metersActually I just did 30 seconds worth of research. 10.98 makes her 10th in the world this hear. Guess what 10th in the world is in the men's mile?
353.21. Webb ran 353.43
holy patootie
it will be interesting to see if she can follow it up or if that was a beamon moment
Comparison to Webb's 3:53 is interesting: Hill ran this agaisnt girls, not pros; also, she is two years younger than Alan was.
GOAT track performance by a high schooler. This is what happened today in Shoreline, WA.
Could put it in the IAAF points tables too.
In case anyone is interested, the IAAF points table has 10.98 being equal to:
49.44 400, 1:54.88 800, 3:56.88 1500, 14:33.34 5k
Shoot never mind that was for men. Ignore that previous comment.
For women a 10.98 is equal to...
50.04 400/ 1:57.19 800/ 4:00.24 1500/ 14:39.30 5k

When it comes to a 100m dash I don't think running against HS or Pro competition makes as much of a difference compared to a mile
Reading comprehension.
