Looks like that discussion of whether Grant was the 4th best HSer of all time may have been a bit premature.

Wow! That's Grant's first loss in two years, right? And is Drew only a junior?
Is Milt already ruining Fisher?
This dramatically hurts Fisher's legacy, no doubt. A loss at this point is nothing short of embarrassing.
No, it doesn't appear as if Fisher is being ruined. However it is obvious how strong Hunter is. Quite the performance. Great coaching from Tinman and Mrs.Hunter.
Wow. I knew Hunter was good, but to beat Fisher is incredible, especially considering he's only a junior.
Hunter won it in 8:42.51 to Fisher's 8:43.57. Last lap of 55 unofficially (per Flotrack).
Hunter was 4th at Foot Lockers last year and will be the top returner in 2015. He was already the favorite and he definitely solidified that position today.
But keep in mind Fisher is more of a miler, and was probably preparing more for the 1500m USA junior championships next weekend in Eugene.
Hunter comes from good stock. His Dad was a member of the US World CC team back in the day.
You can say that Fisher is more of a miler, and it is true that in track he competes almost exclusively at the mile, but he is two time XC champ at 5k. This kid Hunter has got to be a tremendous talent to do this in this fashion, as a junior.
Does this make Hunter the fastest junior at 2 miles ever? I know Hulst was around there

Wow! Very impressive result for Hunter. I agree that this hurts Fisher's case as #4 all-time and I started the thread proclaiming him as such. After this, I would say this puts him into the 6-10 spots along with Fernandez, Virgin, Pre, and Chapa (trailing Ryun, Lindgren, LV, Ritz, and Webb). Maybe he belongs further down the list than that, but he still had a pretty dominant career and I consider him a top 10 guy.

Ritz ran 8:41 as a junior, although that may have been for 3200m, I forget. But I think it was the full 2 miles.

Agreed. Verzbicas and Ritz are now definitely ahead of Fisher IMO, unless Fisher does something ridiculous in the 1500 at USAs next weekend.

Nah. Grant ran too many races in too short a time. It's possible there might have been a letdown after finally breaking four minutes, but the big factor is a bunch of big races in a short period. Considering how physically immature Grant appears to be in comparison to a lot of other guys who've posted similar times, he would seem to have a tremendous upside.
Also it's worth mentioning that Hunter won the Penn Relays 3k last year and set a sophomore record of 8:16 (also given he won the mile this year). But yeah he's a HUGE talent and I think he ran like 8:46 indoors this year too. I feel like Fischer might be a bit burned from such a good year, or maybe just a bit rusty with the 2 mile?
10th best 3200/2 mile (expressed as 2 miles) for Hunter.
Problem may not be Fisher. Problem is that Hunter is a top 10 all time...pretty sure that closing in 55 is not optimal for a fast time. So in fact, Hunter could be even better than top 10...
Fisher fits in right after the HS "Legends" (Ryun, Webb, Fernandez, LV, Ritz...), not sure that he is one of them.
Hunter may become one of these legends...

Ritz's 8:41 was for 3200.

Okay, I have to disagree on that. I do agree that he fits in after the others that you listed (who I have deleted), but not Fernandez.
Grant - 3:59/8:42 with 2 footlocker titles and a loss to Hunter (who you say may be a top 10 type talent).
Fernandez - 4:01c/8:34 with a 3rd place footlocker finish behind Fout and Derrick (Derrick is arguably a top 20-30 guy, Fout is off the map despite being an XC stud)
I still say Grant's resume wins.

Ritz's 8:41 was for 3200.
Hulst's 2 mile time was 8:44.xx
8:44.6 in his battle with Ralph Serna.
