Centro falling into the "milers trap" trying to increase performance by focusing on trying to drop his 800 time and focusing on speed. Rather than working on his supporting endurance.
Renato has brought this up many times and used Alan Webb and Silas Kiplagat as examples. Silas had his worst season after focusing on "speed" instead of strength. Webb blew up in 07 after his 1:43.
Thoughts?
Renato mentioned that Silas couldn't go under 49 for 400 48'8 at best he said. Yet he has one of the fastest 1500 times since El G.
Lagat when he was running sub 3:30 the best he could do was 146:00. Yet he was 12:5x 5k runner.
Yes some athletes are 800/1500 runners who can run really fast 800's but it is a mistake for the strength based 1500 to try and emulate that.
Don't forget centro was top 10 in NCAA XC twice! Clearly strength oriented.
Wonder what kind of effect his new 800 PB is going to have on his 1500
