Sup peeps,
Been lurking around here for sometime now. A little background on me. One more used to be fat story now turn runner wouldn't hurt would it? lol.
Never got any real coaching in high school only ran at the schools regular sports meet. Long story short after that the partying and drinking started straight after and into college, then after college, then every weekend, then everyday...I think you get the picture. Anyway one doctors visit change my perspective on health. Ended up with extreme high blood pressure and diabetes. Was time for a change. Last year January I joined a flag football team and started to lose some weight. After high school I was around 143-145lbs. By age 32 i was a 5'5" 190 fat ass. The weight started to drop off slowly but surely. At the end of Flag season in June i was 155lbs and needed some exercise program to keep up with fitness.... So I took up running.
Initially I thought i had a good coach but this guy was turning me into a muscle builder more than a runner :( Had to get rid of him. The next coach focused too much on speed work after the fact I told him I wanted to train for the 5K up to Marathon. He was trying to train me for the 800m. In the trash he went.
So here I am on my own and training. During those spurts of bad coaches I did notice I still have some decent leg speed. 24-25s for 200m all out. I ran my first 5K earlier this year in 19:52. Since I've been training on my own for my 5 x 1000m 1 min rest workout I've gotten down to 18:21 for total volume. I figured I can do this. Ultimate goal for 2015 is to get sub 18:00 for 5K.
My workouts are mainly 3-4 Mile tempo runs, Mile repeats, 1000m repeats and some 200-300s just to keep my leg speed and long runs up to 17 miles.
Today I turned 34 and current weight is 132lbs. Still truckin. Never was a runner before but I love being one now. Probably should have taken it more seriously in high school buts thats the past.
Do you guys think I can hit sub 18:00 this year?
