Wow... just wow. I don't think anyone was expecting that. But, US #1 and a great performance. Closed in 63. Not sure what that is All-time in US and CA but probably well up there.

closed in 63? thats more impressive than the time
any proof of that?
Someone on the tfn board said she closed in 67. That seems much more plausible to me.
Incredible race... fastest time since Hasay/Chetelat 2008 and she did it all by herself!
67 is the correct answer.
Splits were about 71, 75, 75, 76, 76, 76, 76, 67. O'Keefe was there through 7 laps and even pretty close at 3k, but didn't have the same finish as Collins and had to settle for 10:01. Chetelet and O'Keefe came from the same high school program (Davis Senior High School). Are they the 2 fastest second place finishers ever at a state meet?
Plus she had already gone 4:41 in the 1600 - wonder if she could have run much faster if she was fresh.
This was asked on a different thread, but how does her double stack up historically? We all know Fernandez has the best double for boys, but does anyone have a list for girls?

Yes, Collin's 4:41/9:53 is the best same-day 1600/3200 double in US hs history.
A little bit faster than Kim Mortenson's (from memory) 4:44/10:01 double at the CA Southern Section division finals back in 1996.
Collins, O'Keefe & 4:39/1600m champ Gehrich are all Jrs, so next year's CA girls distance running might be the best ever any state has ever seen.
Is she a woman of color? Name Destiny makes it seem possible.
Correction on above same-day distance double, here are the all-time top 3:
1) 14:35.09 (4:41.30/9:53.79 Destiny Collins 2015 CA State Meet
2) 14:40.71 (4:42.29/9:58.42) Bethan Knights 2014 Ca So. Section finals
3) 14:49.39 (4:46.28/10:03.11) Kim Mortenson 1996 CA So. Sec. Div. finals
Alexa Efraimson ran her national record 4:33.+/1600 race at last year's WA state meet but elected not to run the 3200.
The only other possible entrant to this list would have been Mary Cain, her frosh & soph seasons back in 2011 & 2012 when she was still running hs races in NY. Since NY girls run the 1500 & 3k, Cain **may** have run a 1500/3000 same-day double that, when converted to 1600/3200, would make the above list. Not aware that she ever did a same-day double of note, but if she did and someone remembers, please post.

Kayla Beattie's double at the IL state meet in 2011 actually edges out Knights'-
14:40.61 (9:56.96/4:43.65) Kayla Beattie 2011 IL 2A State Meet
1) 14:35.09 (4:41.30/9:53.79 Destiny Collins 2015 CA State Meet
2) 14:40.61 (9:56.96/4:43.65) Kayla Beattie 2011 IL 2A State Meet

4) 14:49.39 (4:46.28/10:03.11) Kim Mortenson 1996 CA So. Sec. Div. finals
Wouldn't be surprised if Cuffe or somebody also had a same day double that beat out at least Mortenson.

Awesome. Thanks for doing the legwork. It really puts Collins' performance into perspective.

3 and 8 seconds is more than a "little bit".
Sorry, I didn't take video of state finals. I filmed our team at Prelims, but that's it. I wanted to sit and enjoy the meet yesterday and I did. There was a live feed up somewhere. Maybe there's a replay available? I'm not really sure though.
