Twin Cities Marathon champion and Zap Fitness runner Tyler Pennel ran 3:58 to place second at the Nike Festival of Miles beating Grant Fisher and would have won if it were not for Macnamara's kick.... quite impressive.

go tyler
go zap
go reebok
Does anyone know where he is racing next?
His schedule -- here --
http://www.tylerpennelrunning.com/results/
says next race is June 14, Portland, 5km.
Wait a second, where is the guy claiming that unless you run 2:04 and 3:50 back to back it's not impressive. Come on LRC d'bags, you're slipping.
What's the sub-4 mile/2:10 marathon U.S. combo-record? Wanna say Greg Meyer, but I think his Boston was aided? Of course Hall could have at some point but never did.
Insane.

Well, according to the VDOT charts, his marathon time is soft and should be 2:11:54. :)
http://www.runbayou.com/jackd.htmJust kidding. Amazing... simply awesome stuff!

Alan Culpepper has the record at 3:55 and 2:09:41 (unaided).
Bobby Curtis has run 3:57 and 2:11:20, so he may have a shot to break it.
Also, did Ritz never run a sub-4?
Pretty rare for sub-4 and sub-2:15....Rice coach Jon Warren is one of the few to have done it.
Quenton Cassidy back in the day.

You obviously mean another one???? Because if you follow the sport you would know that he ran 28:22 this year at Stanford.
Congrats Tyler! Must've been a huge pb for him because his race results on his website shows his 1500m pb to be 3:48.71 from the Raleigh Relays in this past March. Impressive range

In my day I remember Paul Cummings being unusually good at both. Looked it up. 3:56.4 mile and 2:11:31 marathon. Given that he also ran a 3:37.6 1500m to break the indoor American record in 1978, he was one who stuck out as a rare miler/marathoner back then. Now we are seeing that the efficiency of running a fast mile does carry on up to the marathon in many cases.
Also keep in mind that 2:11 was his marathon debut. Tyler's an all around nice guy - glad good things are coming to him!
can we get a ventology on this guys 3k 5k 6k 7k 8k 9k 10k and half marathon potentials.

i can give you a statsgangsta-ology...
assuming he's CURRENTLY in shape to do BOTH of the times mentioned in this thread (3:58 & 28:22), I get
http://timescalculator.appspot.com/800 1:52.00
1000 2:22.60
1500 3:41.03
1-mile 3:58.0
3000 7:46.72
2-mile 8:23.33
5000 13:28.53
10000 28:22.0
half-mara 63:03.67
marathon 132:13.61
When did he run 2:13? Looks like he is currently in ~2:12 shape in a perfect race.
Also, you can play around with lap splits here:
