welcome to Letsrun Mr. Rivera
And a Sophomore from CBA ran 4:11. Looks like Nj has a lot of future studs
Solid mark. Reminds me of Alex McClary (Shelton, WA) in 2002. Ran 1:50.72 as a Soph at the state meet. Stayed at that level for two more years, improved some in college, eventually running 1:47 and 3:57 after graduating from Arkansas.
Rey Rivera's SBs before the season started:
2015 Indoor: 1:58.75
2014 Outdoor: 2:00.42
2014 Indoor: 2:01.25
Crazy improvement. ....perhaps too crazy? Get this boy tested for PEDs! We have another Galen on our hands!
Just kidding though. Impressive and future looking very bright for him!
From another Article, I read that he split 1:54 in 4x800!

Nj has a ton of talent. Just for the sophomore grade, Rivera won mocs 800 in 1:50 and anzano won the 1600 in 4:11. Although he hasn't won a mocs yet, Matt Grossman is the best soph in the state in the 3200 running 9:14.
The juniors in the state also looked great. 4 of the top 5 in the 1600 were underclassmen. Blaise ferro of cba is still only a junior and has won 3 of the last 4 moc titles in the 3200. The one that he lost, he still ran 9:03.
Wow. He was running 2 flatx2 ,1:59, and a 1:58.75 pr earlier in the season. Then he was running 1:54x2 recently, and now he drops that pr another 3+ seconds! So, he has dropped his pr by at least 8 seconds this year already. And he has still not competed against the best in the nation, who might pull him to an even faster time. 1:50 is very fast for a sophomore. Obviously a ton of potential here. As for higher distances, his pr's on that link were something like 4:24 and 16 something, so he's obviously running this on speed without too much aerobic foundation, something that can obviously be built with training.
It's insane, how much he improved and I heard that he actually used to play football before his freshman year and then transitioned to track!
Wait, before you jump to conclusions about this kid: Did he look relaxed?
I was at this race yesterday. It was pretty ridiculous. (As in, amazing.)
The presumptive favorite, Rienas, of Old Tappan, ran a brilliant race from the front. Crushed his PR by a second and a half, paced it brilliantly, finished in 1:51 flat.
This Rivera kid, a freaking soph I haven't even heard of, who must've gone out in close to 56, comes out of nowhere down the home stretch, blows by Rienas (who actually held up very well; wasn't tying up badly or anything like that), and beats him comfortably.
Kid must've closed in 54-high. How often do you see that in a HS sophomore?
Then he gives an interview after 60 seconds, dismisses his achievement like it was no big deal, saying, "I know I can run faster."
Watch out. Might be the next John Marshall. Might be better.
It's true that NJ's got a sh*t-ton of hot young talent, but you guys left out the Crown Jewel: Sydney McLaughlin. Holy Mother.
15 years old, and she'd be competitive at the top NCAA level right now. (400, 400H, and whatever else she might feel like running.)
I am only impressed when a sophomore runs that and it leads to further development! More often than not it goes no where! Mainly because a coach doesn't know what to do with that kind of talent!
The coaches at OB know what they're doing. They're no strangers to big dudes.

The coaches at Old Bridge certainly know what they are doing. They have worked with Christian Boateng, Travis Mahoney, Matt Ciambriello, and plenty of other top notch athletes.
Lets hope he keeps on improving and this win doesn't get to his head and he keeps working hard.
Not as good as Brazier
He should race Hari Sathymurthy of Brownsburg.
