Centro beats an Olympic Champion. How does that grab ya?
Wilson is just so consistent. She almost never flops in a big race. She almost had this. I couldn't see the absolute strain on her down the stretch but she always looks like this. She and Centro are obviously medal contenders, and I'd say that Wilson has a great shot at gold, one of the two favorites, with Sum, at the moment. Of course, a year and a half in women's distance running is a lot and who knows what dopers and intersex runners will pop out of the woodwork in the meantime.
Ajee Wilson is only 20!
Medal contenders:
Wilson
Simpson
Martinez
Coburn
Rupp
Centro
Jaeger
Don't know the last time the U.S. had so many medal contenders in distance events! Awesome.
You forgot:
Manzano
Rowbury
Montano
(Cain)
You forgot Lagat and Huddle
Good run!

True. Imaging the hype if someone like Cain was running sub-1:58. She gets ignored a bit because of her skin color.
I didn't forget them. They aren't medal contenders in athletics. Are you aware of another sport they will be competing in?

-I hope you're joking. If not, you need a punch in the face. Stop with the racist bs.
Huddle is definitely a medal contender, maybe not gold but truly has a shot at a medal. Manzano is so flighty it's hard to count him in or out. Price...funny. Ajee is a true stud though. Hope that dude in the women's 8000 doesn't develop too much and steal a medal from some deserving, actual woman.

The 8000 is a new event this year, in case you hadn't heard. Doh!
i actually agree here about race being a factor in ajee vs. cain.
ajee is 20 and running 1:57. cain gets press everywhere on letsrun and even publications (nytimes even!)
i mean..... skinny young blond girl...... what other reasons can you find?
Which Man/Woman is this?
you do realize that the medals only go 3 deep? here's the 5000 list from last year:
14:28.88 Genzebe Dibaba (Ethiopia) Monaco DL 07/18
14:29.19 Almaz Ayana (Ethiopia) Monaco DL 07/18
14:33.73 Viola Kibiwot (Kenya) Monaco DL 07/18
14:37.18 Sally Kipyego (Kenya) Monaco DL 07/18
14:39.49 Betsy Saina (Kenya) Monaco DL 07/18
14:42.64 *Molly Huddle (US) Monaco DL 07/18
i have a hard time calling her a medal contender when, in the best race of her life, she was 6th and 14 seconds from the winner. if you are going to call her a medal contender, then you might as well toss in hasay, conley, moser, roesler, solomon, true and mead.
you lose all credibility when you state that you are on the fence over whether manzano is a medal contender. he's the reigning olympic silver medalist for christ's sake.

Huddle is definitely still on the rise, not all contenders are getting medals, Huddle will be in the medal mix.
Does the definition of flighty elude you? As greatly as Manzano's race results fluctuate, there's about equal chance he makes or doesn't make the team. I root for the guy, but it's a crap-shoot when he's out there.

Huddle is not a medal contender. Distances are too deep.
