I believe Ethiopian Federation intervened to stop Ayana racing too soon after her electrifying performance in Shanghai, fearing she could burn out. Also since she and Genzebe are currently their top runners in the 5000 and therefore tentatively Team Ethiopia for Beijing World Championship 2015, it would be unwise to put the two in the same race where there are substantially strong runners from other countries who could steal the race. In case Genzebe gets beaten, Ethiopia will be disappointed but not as much as if both Ayana and Genzebe were beaten in a race in advance of the World championship. I will not be surprised if Ayana opts to stay away from most of the diamond league races before the World championship.
With Ayana and Jordan out, there is one fantastic athlete making a debut at 5000m and it will be very interesting how well she will handle this race. Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon is no stranger. Double World cross country champion, former world junior champ @ 1500m, Kenyan national record holder in 1500m@3'56"98, twice Kenya national senior cross country champion and Africa senior cross country champion. All these accolades within the last five years. In her debut at 3000m she ran 8'23" to finish fourth. I believe this girl will be owning the Kenyan national record over 5000m in the very near future. Whether she will manage that this weekend, I cannot say for sure. One thing I am sure of is, she will finish in the top four. So something like 14'20s. Her talent, courage and ferocity makes me think she is one of those who could beat Genzebe this weekend. Her chances even better than Vivian Cheruiyot's at this time.
