I've been out of commission for about a year with ITBS. As I get back into it, is it okay to start with mostly short, threshold-pace runs? It feels a lot more natural to me than plodding, and it's actually how I first started when I got into the sport. Not a troll thread. :)

It worked well for me when I was just getting into running. Seems like it might be different after a prolonged, injury-induced break, but I'm not sure.
LT running really isn't "speed work". Don't need "speed work" anyway". Lookey here, big boy!:

Hi CG.
I have had a similar experience with PF issues and calf strain since January this year when I ran 62.3 for the 4 and 2.22.4 for the 8. (I turned 55 in Feb)
Tried to run through the tightness, but ended up taking 4 weeks off.
I had PT during the injury cycle, but the only thing that got rid of it was rest.
I Started back 6 weeks ago, and like you decided to run interval thresholds to build up fitness and keep a good technique rather than shuffle along.
During this time I struggled to break 21 secs for 100's.
A nice session I have built on is 3 x 1k @ 3.54 w 100 wlk rec, along with 1500 speed, eg 6 x 400 @ 83 w 100 wlk.
Finally last week I had a breakthrough session, 7 x 150 @ 22.8 with 2 min wlk back.
Couldn't quite believe how the speed came from, but I suspect it is the body finally running freely again. I have a few little tight spots, but will get them PT'd in a few days.
Last night I tried a 40m standing in 6.23 which correlates to my 400 time x 10, and 2 x100 off 1m in 14.4 and 14.5 which were very relaxed.
Tonight, I am opening my season with a 400, so hopefully I can go close to 62 without pushing too hard.
The thing is too be patient - something we are not very good at - to get back again.
Also, I have been taking 1-2 days off at a time and to assist recovery which I now plan to carry on doing as it works rather than push out 7-8 days without rest.

Hey guys, I had ITBS and it knocked me out for 5 weeks. The best thing I did for my comeback was not quality running, but KT tape. Get some and watch the YouTube video for ITBS.
