An older friend asked the barkeep for a martini in one of those trendy downtown clubs and was surprised to get what he termed a vodkatini.
I opined vodka is the go to liquor in todays world but the barkeep should have asked since the customer was older than his average client and should have know the history of this drink.

You are right, but I have to admit that I am not surprised at the scenario at all.
The exact opposite happened to my wife. She ordered a martini, extra dirty and it was hilarious because she took a sip and said, "Oh, this is just not the right drink." It was a beautiful gin martini. I complimented the barkeep, downed it in one sip and ordered her a vodka martini, extra dirty. She ordered five or six more before the evening was through, and before you could say Juniper Berry we were rolling around on the shit-stained sheets of the hotel room.
