I've run 4:33 for a mile, which causes running calculators like Daniels to prescribe tempo paces in the ballpark of 5:45 pace. However, I can only make it to two miles at that pace before I get really really tired and struggle to continue. With a lot of straining, I can do 4 miles at 6:00 pace. My 5k PR from a year ago is 16:45, but I'm probably in high 17 fitness right now. Clearly my endurance is awful. What should I do to run closer to what the calculators suggest? Could I do my tempos at 6:15ish until I can handle 6:00 pace for, say, 5 miles comfortably?
