it could be that an athlete simply chooses what he or she wants to do. lukas verzbicas was clearly the best runner ever to graduate from a US high school, with the possible exception of jim ryun, and he chose to go back to triathlon after about 3 months of giving pure running a shot. it isn't that he chose to see what he could do, as a triathlete, against the big boy single sporters. he was the big dog.
