Hello!
This question is mainly for sub 15 5K runners or any experienced distance coach/runner.
I'm chagrined to say that my 5K PR is 15:00. By 15 minutes I mean 15 flat. It was my last outdoor collegiate track race last year where the conditions were just about perfect. It was a heart breaker for me as I really wanted to go under 15 and practically gave it my all to do that last year. Life had gotten in the way last fall/winter, and I wasn't as dedicated to training. I have recently been dedicated to fitting in some training on my own. My mileage has been meager at best lately (-40 miles per week) and I recently ran a 16:00 (flat) 5K track race. My question is: is it possible for me to get back to where I was last year, and what would be the best advice? Should I immediately be running paces a sub 15 5K runner would run during workouts or gradually drop the paces for workouts over several weeks?
