What sort of it times would it take me to run during XC and track as a senior in HS to get the naval academy to look at recruiting me? I'd really like to hopefully run XC or track for them.

Sub Very low 15's for 5K, Low 9's 2 mile, sub 4:20 mile
I dont have any specific insight for you on the running program. But I would like to wish you luck and encourage you to start your preparation early when applying.
I didnt go to Navy, but I ran for a DI school and now fly in the Marine Corps. I have quite a few colleagues who went to the academy and some who ran there as well. Its an incredible school and an opportunity of a lifetime. But be smart- try to get a Marine air contract. Good luck!
Thanks for the kind words. And I am very interested in naval aviation!
Talk to a HS counselor who helps with college placement (college prep classes, SAT, AP, etc.) about your interest to go to one of the academies and ask about other students' experiences. The admissions are very selective--you need a reference from a US senator and or Congress-person amongst other things. See if you can get into a Junior ROTC program at your (or a nearby) HS. You may want to have backup plan to get into a college with an ROTC program that has Track/XC.
Thanks for the advice. I'm not too worried about getting in, I know I can make it with my academics, sports, other activities, and a presidential nom. I was just wondering what it would take to run at a varsity level there. I am also interested in their marathon team. That definitely looks like fun! And it's probably the far more practical option for me as I'm a little too far away from those comets tube times listed above.
Competitive* haha

The first poster who said very low 15 in the 5k and very low 9 in the 3200 is pulling your chain. Honestly the naval academy is built primarily from 9:20-9:30 guys
Forget about the naval academy. You have shown no desire or will to become an officer in the navy. Why do you want to go there for? Running? Free education? so so?
Then you are picking the WRONG school man. Leave the naval academy to those who REALLY want to become an ADMIRAL.
I want to become an ADMIRAL and you will NOT STEAL my slot.
Go run for Oregon, I heard they will guarantee you into the 2020 olympics.
0/10 if you are trolling.
I knew a guy that was recruited that ran 1:55 so that equates to about a 4:20/9:20. Maybe a bit faster for the mile. But if you show a honest interest and you're decent, they will recruit you. That's assuming you're going to get accepted.
But I will say...know what you're getting yourself in to before you go there. I've heard on recruiting visits, mids will honestly tell recruits not to go there. First year sucks. Alot. Alot alot. Second years sucks. Third year is meh. Fourth year is okay.
If you're not gun-ho for the navy, don't go there. And if you are, then track will make yourself easier and better.
Haha. It truly is amusing just how little people know about the Naval Academy. The only aspect I sought information about was running. That's why I posted this on LetsRUN. Running at the academy on a varsity level is something I thought I might want to attempt because of the challenge. I like to apply myself to the fullest extent of my ability. I want to go to the academy because I was raised in the military lifestyle and know no other way to live. My goal is to be a pilot and serve my country. With your sort of attitude, I WILL take your slot as admiral while you wallow in sorrow at community college.
Good luck to you but no need to put others down. I too have USNA dreams and imagine a real Midshipman doesn't put others down to build themselves up.
I'm sorry but where am I putting him down? He made a brash comment towards me, so naturally I acknowledged that his mindset will not facilitate success for himself. I wish we could all come together and talk about running or our goals in being mids, and not focus on negativity. Nice to see other guys interested in the same school as me. Don't give up the ship!

I'm sorry, but I have what I needed to get in except MY GPA. Mine is barely 3.50ish. Doesn't the academy think that GPA tells NOTHING?
I am just desperate to become a navy pilot and I wanted to become a navy pilot since i was SIX years old. So excuse me for getting this desperate.
Ohhhhh. So you're that guy from the other thread. Honestly, as long as you have good moral character and are relatively well rounded, I don't see how a 3.5 can stop you. There is also ROTC and OCS so never give up on your dream if the academy decided they don't need you. Their loss. Keep moving forward!

You should become a SEAL. Then you'll have ample free time to post on LR ,like Hooyah Bob.
As someone who is currently on the Navy XC/T&F team, I think I can help you out a bit.
So first off, Coach Cantello usually only looks at sub-4:20 milers, guys who can run around 9:25 or faster, and under 16 for 5k in XC. Thats not to say that he doesn't recruit others who don't meet these standards, but thats usually what he looks for.
As for me, I wasn't recruited. I ran 4:28, 9:49, and 16:11 in high school. I was a mediocre walk on at best. But high school times ultimately don't matter. Wrapping up sophmore year I've now run 8:19 for 3k, 14:18 for 5k, 24:13 for XC (8k), and 29:42 for 10k.
Don't focus on trying to get recruited, focus on trying to get in. Even if you have to walk on, you'll have a chance to show what you can do.
I understand that one doesn't need to be recruited to join the navy xc/track team, but in my special case, being recruited is NECESSARY for me if I want to ever set foot on the naval academy campus.
I too have the dreams of flying for the navy since I was 6 years old and getting a high secured pay where other jobs like doctors and other good professions (they're boring anyway) are more likely to be layoff the next day. I also don't see myself being a successful multimillionaire when I get a butt load of requests and stressful stock decisions where I am more likely to slack off.
To be on topic, I did meet and exceeded the requirements for getting in which are sat score of 2400, earn a eagle rank, no police record, high physical score and so on, except my college gpa which is barely 3.50 (took courses modeled after service acad's). I honestly don't see how a 3.50 would mean I am a hazard to other mid's. Any answers would help.
Forgot to mention that for my athletic performance, I ran one of the times below.
800m 1:49
1600m 4:16
3200m 9:21
5k 15:31
I still run for my college team and looking forward to make nats. for the 800m.
