Can some local explain me where Mike exactly lives? I have read: Rydal, Abington, Jenkintown, Montgomery, Philly. Very confusing.
PA resident here. If you live in Southeastern PA, you have many choices to choose from when describing where you live:
Train Station/Historic name of smaller village (Rydal): Name of closest SEPTA Train Station. The train stations were often named after historic names of old villages which are not incorporated and have no government to speak of.
Township (Abington): This is the local government unit for most Pennsylvanians that don't live in cities or boroughs.
U.S. Post Office (Jenkintown): Although Jenkintown is a borough (another local government unit), it is also a post office/zip code name that covers areas outside the borough which is very common in PA.
County (Montgomery): Numerous townships make up a county, another government unit. Pennsylvania has 67 counties.
Nearest City ("Philly"): The borders of the City and County of Philadelphia are relatively small and so is the reach of the City government (a very good thing!!!). However, if I am traveling and someone asks me where I am from, I usually say "Philadelphia" or "Outside Philadelphia."
My guess is that Rossi has a Jenkintown mailing address but lives in Abington Township (Montgomery County) near the Rydal train station, all in the suburbs of Philadelphia.
I am sure someone will correct me if I messed any of this up.
