If I were Mike Rossi's attorney, I'd be crying myself to sleep at night, knowing that this is the difference that I'm making in the World. Lawyers have one of the highest rates of depression out of all careers. I wonder why... I bet that even Rossi's lawyer secretly thinks that he's a scumbag but, what the hell!, as long as he keeps paying...

That is a very simplistic view. I think there is at least a 51% chance that Mr. Rossi cheated, but everyone deserves to have their voice heard. It is not up to the attorney to decide guilt or innocence. It is his job to represent the best interests of his client (regardless of personal opinions). I wouldn't have any difficulty sleeping if I were the lawyer representing Mr. Rossi.
The one problem here is that he can't prove he ran the race...because he didn't. In your cited case there's a practical admission of guilt by the defendant, that there was harm just for the sake of harm. That is not the case here, he would have to prove he ran the race, if he didn't run the race (which he didn't), LR will win. And we will crowdfund their defense.

Regarding the case
If I was MR's attorney you better believe that I would be contacting Letsrun and seeking out some money right now. If you have ever been sued you know the drill.
I wonder how much it's costing mike to have his attorney make posts on letsrun.
Dude: for him to collect damages, he has to prove damages. Which means he has to open up his own actions to scrutiny. Like his idiot self-serving letter to his kids principal which he willing posted on social media and resulted in ACTUAL death threats to that principal - who was doing her job. Not running a marathon she allegedly cheated to get into.
Mike: your subscription to spray tan is in serious danger. Walk away

Highest depression rates:
1. Medical Doctors
2. Dentists
3. Police Officers
4. Veterinarians
5. Financial Services
6. Real Estate Agents
7. Electricians
8. Lawyers
9. Farmers
10. Pharmacists
11. Chemists
Somebody (other than me, because I'm lazy) should email the guy who wrote that article in PhillyMag and get him to look into whether all of the posters supporting Rossi are posting from the same IP address. You would think that Rossi would have smartened up since Wejo outed him, and is now posting from different locations, but who knows.
The writer clearly believes that Rossi is a cheat and a scumbag, based on the article, and Rossi insults him as a writer under his own name in the comments. It won't look good for Rossi if we find out that he's the one behind all or most of those posts, especially since he makes the claim (whether rightly or wrongly) that this thread is made up of only a few people posting under different names.

Mike's attorney is loving this. I'll bet he reads really slow and is the worst typist in the world. Every minute he can stretch this out is just gravy train to him. He doesn't have to prove anything or go to court or file any pre-trial motions.
Mike Rossi is a cheater and scumbag, but he's an attorney's wet dream.

Good to know, Mike.
But you know what they say about someone representing themselves in court.

You would think, right? But Mike is a narcissist who thinks he can still control the damage. But he is sadly mistaken. He pushed too many buttons when he attacked that principal, and now retribution is upon him. You reap what you sow, Mikey.

It's great cause you don't pay any attorney fees.

Wow Mike really does post here.
Yeah they are so scared they locked this thread - oh wait, they didn't, it's still going viral.
If you google 'Mike Rossi cheats' there is page after page of results with articles about what a lying, cheating scumbag you are. Unique articles as well as quoted references, a wide assortment.
Blogs, magazines, websites - nice legacy you created for yourself - if you go deep enough in the results you might find that letter to the principal that was so inspiring, so hope that was worth it.
You lying, cheating scumbag.

Great stuff Tony.
I think that somebody already said you won't get sued for what you are saying.
Also, how is a letsrun thread "going viral"?
It is 99% running geeks talking trash. So about .004% of the population.
^2 I can't imagine he has a ton of money to spend on this, unless he is conspiring with his Serbian council to bring about fraudulent, frivilous lawsuits in hoping to bilk some frightened naive persons into ponying up.

So how much has Rossi spent on legal fees so far??
That email to rojo alone must have cost a few hundred $! Hopefully he has enough income to pay for all this.

Who doesn't cut their lawyers hours? Beside, if he was doing all this busy work himself I'd drop him right away, like any smart person.
he isn't paying big money people.

Sigh . . .
Randy, this was regarding a hypothetical wherein MR attempts to sue a poster for libel. The point being that the attorney would not waste time posting on a board if there was a real shot at getting a settlement. Contacting letsrun is just one step in initiating that process.
Besides, I doubt people would actually contribute much. Half of everybody complains about the surveys and ads. I will pledge the amount that I could have billed for the time that I wasted on this thread today . . . so about 8 minutes worth.
