Okay, I missed that. What I saw was a blog post about how he ran well over 1000 miles in 18 mo and the letsrun crowd did the math on exactly 1000 mi and worked it out to 15 mi/week.

If he had a log , either GPS or written, couldn't he just post it here or give it to the LV panel to prove the buildup to the 3:11? Seems like if he did that the investigation would have ended by now and his name cleared.
I thought I read somewhere that he built up to around 40 mpw in the lead-up to one of his marathons. This would make more sense to me, especially if he was doing long runs of up to 18 miles, or whatever his posted workout was. It may well be that he only ran a little over 1000 miles in 18 months but he may have been injured or unmotivated some of those months (so mileage would be close to zero) while at other times his mileage was well above 15 mpw.
I know that my training was always like this, when I was training without a coach. I would get super-motivated and run 90+ miles a week for a few months and then my motivation would ebb or I would get injured from overtraining and I would run very little for the rest of the year.

Also, I set up a blog. If we can get into the details on the blog..and keep them off here for Kara and future cheats..it should be a win for everybody.
Still working on adding some meat to the blog..but it can serve as a place to put information and request investigation.
Hopefully, at least initially we can still post basic info on letsrun to drive investigations to take place on the blog.

I love this, really hope it takes off.

No confession. He needs to double down. Find another marathon with mats and put down a 3:09. Do whatever it takes.
And it would set the internet on fire again.
Now THIS is probably Rossi's preferred route out of this, but can he do it? If he really was able to run a 4:01 and a 3:45 on 15 MPW of training, that does seem to indicate some inherent running ability. To be honest, I can't believe he would be able to achieve those times on so few miles. According to this Runner's World chart:
http://www.runnersworld.com/race-training/runners-with-more-training-miles-finish-marathons-faster, a 4:02 runner typically does 25-31 MPW. A 3:48 runner typically does 38-44 MPW. That seems much more in line than 15 MPW. His 5k times do not indicate a lot of natural speed and put him into the 4 hour range. I think a 3:25 is doable for him with some solid work in the next year or two, assuming he can keep away from injuries and get his miles in. However, a 3:09 would be a monumental task for him. I don't even know that it's possible within the next two years even if he busted his hump in a big way. If he had faster times at the shorter distances, it might indicate that he has a lot of room to improve at the marathon distance, but that's not the case.
I agree, though, if he could pull off a legitimate 3:09, it would be a big middle finger in all of our faces, and his ego would grow to immense proportions and he would never have to own up to a thing. That would be such a ballsy move that even I might be impressed.

As for your second point, see the "If" in my statement.
More dishonesty.
lol, no.
He has only been running for 18 months in his entire life. He started running right after the Boston marathon bombing.
Ok, so now that I'm caught up, I have to admit that I imagined a better finish. Here's to the esteemed marathon committee for taking their own sweet time to deliberate.
"And as long as he can shield his kids from the media so that they never find out he can keep lying to himself and his family."
This is why he needs to come clean because he can never shield his kids from the truth, it's all over the net and will be for ever. I don't know how old his kids are but all they need to do now is Google their dads name, my five year old can do that. An older kid at school says something to them because they heard their parents talking, etc, etc, come up with your own scenario. Even they don't do it now, they're going to do it later on, guaranteed, because someone is going to drop it that he was a cheat and when they do their research the fact that he hasn't come clean now will only make it a whole lot worse .
Here in Australia I Googled Mike Rossi and at the top of the results is something I wouldn't want my kids seeing (in addition to all the rest):
"Letsrun.com - Where Mike Rossi's nightmares become reality"
and the first post says:
"I wanna know what you all think the end game is here.
I am gonna guess Rossi is going to lay low until the official investigations are over and he is publicly confirmed as a liar and a cheater. Then he's gonna go no comment and try to live it down for the rest of his life.
???"
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=6487410
Then there's all the other Google results "Did 'Marathon Dad' Cheat His Way Into Boston Marathon ..." and "Principal Shames Dad Over Kids' 'Once-in-a-Lifetime ..." and so on.
Googling 'mike rossi marathon cheat' brings up heaps, this one seems to condense a lot of them in to one:
mike rossi does not look like a 3:11 marathoner, gallowalker maybe.
It's possible that Rossi is an idiot who didn't properly describe his training volume over the periods before LVM. He could have run 800 of the 1k miles in the 3 mos before LVM, with the remaining 200 miles spread over the preceding 15 mos. Highly unlikely, and certainly his flabby race photos would not support that theory, but it's possible.
Either way, my opinion is that he's a cheating liar and should not only be DQ'd and banned but punched in the face for the moronic self-absorbed t-shirts that he forced his family to wear in Boston. Sweet Baby Jesus only knows how much he made them wear that crap in the days and weeks prior to marathon weekend.
Pics? Or my handle.

It is funny how 3:11 was a very slow marathon time until this theead came along.

Do we have a link somewhere to the page on his blog where he said that? Is it in Sara's spreadsheet?

These narcissists all seem to have a fatal flaw; they don't know when to stop. It's not enough to cheat your way into Boston; you have to keep a blog, make personalized shirts, and post your race on YouTube. Then the principal calls you on your kids being absent from school, and you have to publically post your reply and do interviews on TV. These narcissists can't help themselves. It's a weird combination of an inflated ego and poor self-esteem, with a dose of stupid for not thinking they'll get caught in their lies.
In all fairness, many of us get away with it and get promoted right to the top. Folks love to be lied to.
