If Galen Rupp was never coached by Alberto salazar would he even have close to as much success that he is having now? How did he catch the attencion of one of the best US coaches ever at such a young age? (14).

He's not one of the best coaches; biggest and most secret pack of lies; that when exposed will melt this message board.
Sleazy is a fantastic coach for Rupp. Together they're a winning team. It doesn't make sense to distinguish between a coach and his athletes. The quality of a coach is fully decided by his athletes' success.
We don't know if he would even have gone out for track. Maybe he would have ended up a NCAA Division II soccer player.
Depending on what type of career he went into, maybe someone at the office would convince him to run a marathon. He runs like 2:30 in his debut on 40 miles/week. A few years later, he improves to qualify for the 2020 olympic trials and takes the win, outkicking Meb.
He gets lucky at the 2020 Olympics as Kenya ends up picking the 3 runners with the fastest times in the previous year, but none are currently at top fitness. Rupp ends up winning the Olympic Silver.
One things for sure - he wouldn't have any thyroid issues like he does now
He'd be a hipster with gages in his ears, and dark makeup, hanging in downtown Portland at Powell's books and Whole Foods.
He wouldn't be married. He wouldn't have decided not to finished a degree at UofO--probably wouldn't have gone to college at all. He would probably still live in his mom's basement.
He would have held the 10000 WR.
I believe Rupp ran 4;01 in high school.
Of course Sal was cognizant of Rupp before senior year. Couple that with a 13:37 (?) in senior year summer.
So a lot of people appreciated Rupp.
4:01 mile after 4+ years of professional level coaching from an amazing coach
he ran 13:55 during the Stanford Invite his SR year i believe.
Say he started running freshman year but was never coached by Salazar would he even be close to as good as he was in HS/NCAA

He doesn't have thyroid issues now according to another thread.
Rupp was on thyroid meds, but he evidently never needed to be on them. Fishy.
Based on my understanding of the story, Rupp most definitely would have been a soccer player if Salazar had never met A soccer player was all he was and ever aspired to be before Salazar entered the picture.

At least he hasn't got a TUE for thyroid issues any more. And that's just because you don't need a TUE for this anymore.

This is an oft-repeated story, but Rupp played soccer at the same high school that Salazar's kids attended. The soccer coach asked Salazar for workouts to improve his player's fitness, Alberto recommended some repeat 200s, later to find that Galen was running them quickly on no training (30-32 sec range).
The head coach for XC/track at CCHS is a former Stanford runner who is phenomenal with the kids there. Many of them have parents who work for Nike, so track is definitely a "cool" sport.
Perfect storm for Galen and Salazar really. I hope they continue to improve. U-S-A!
elfie rupp would be lucky to have a job cleaning toilets at Burger King. He is goofy looking, has the brainpower of a cabbage and has less than zero personality.
He should be giving thanks every single day for the NOPe dope and centro sauce.
Drug Free!
So Rupp was doping at 15-18? Or did he run 4:01,8:01(3k),13:37 clean?

Sometimes the athletes make the coach. AS was knocked for being a coaching failure before the Ruppster broke through.
A case could be made that Elijah Greer of the Portland are would have never won two NCAA titles if it hadn't been for his amazing high school coach.
