Sweet Byrne, bro
What about the 10000m?
And where's Frank Hardy?
Well who was in their 16:24 4 X Mile?
Has anyone looked at the collegiate list of times for the Badgers? I ran in the Big 10 and normally look at it this time of year to see what will happen at Big 10s.
I was stunned by what I see for Wisco. I thought the tfrrs site was malfuncitioning at first.
http://www.tfrrs.org/all_performances/WI_college_m_Wisconsin.html?list_hnd=1552&season_hnd=303
At that link, you will see all of Wisconsin's best times/marks this year.
Let me summarize
800- zero performances.Yes, they haven't had a single guy run the 800 all year. This is the Big 10!!!
Steeple - zero performances.Yes, they haven't had a single guy run the steeple all year. This is the Big 10!!!
10,000 - zero performances.Yes, they haven't had a single guy run the 10k all year. This is the Big 10!!!
10,000 - Zero performances.
Thank goodness those xc runners are running the 5k. All 2 of them:
5000:
Schrobilgen, Malachy SO-2 13:53.52
Sandvold, Russell SO-2 14:08.06
1500 - They've had 6 guys run this but 2 of them look like multis.
Hardy, Joe FR-1 3:44.81
Hirsch, Carl SO-2 3:46.93
Ramos, McKena SO-2 3:49.09
Sandvold, Russell SO-2 3:50.19
Smith, Sawyer FR-1 4:55.30
Foss, Charlie JR-3 5:07.46
What the hell is going on in Madison?
TBH I have no idea, but this is my guess: They can't populate the distance roster for the men's track and field team because of title 9. The few really talented athletes the team has space for need time to develop which means not racing them into the ground during track. During this development phase they would probably just race the B-squad, but there is no B-squad because of title 9. You can have an excellent base phase or you can have the really long indoor/outdoor season which robs you of the ability to have a really good base phase. So rather than compromising the development of their talent for XC and future track seasons they simply don't race.
Title IX has outlived itself. Time for it to be thrown in the incinerator. Huge negative impact on men's sports. And besides, most colleges/universities aren't in compliance anyways so what is the point?

This is stupid and wrong. Wisconsin has 24 guys ON THEIR ROSTER for track listed as "distance" or "middle distance." There are only 19 on their XC roster. It does not matter if they race or not, they count for Title IX. Clearly you are just an uninformed dolt making sh*t up. Whatever the reason Wisconsin hasn't been racing their runners, Title IX has nothing to do with it.
The 800 is an essential event, but I don't really care about steeple or 10,000.
As long as you can score in jumps, throws, sprints, mid-d, long-d, and occasionally hurdles, you are a real track team. So, some respectable 5K and 1500 performanceces meet the mid and L-D requirements.
Also, shame on the big 10 for having member schools that don't even sponsor men's track! (Northwestern for sure, not sure which others don't)
What happened to Austin Mudd? I haven't seen his name in a while. He was a great high school prospect, running the 800 meters in 1:48 to win New Balance Nationals and 4:01 to take second in the Dream Mile.

Still on the roster, ran 3:40 last outdoor season. Ran 3:57 mile at some point to set the school record. Ho-hum results so far this year (3:59 mile / 1:50 800 indoors)
Gearing up to be 2015 NCAA XC Champs, duh
They redshirted everyone. They have a nearly 8000 point decathlete that is competing unattached this year. I guess they are stacking the team for next season to go after another conference or potentially national title.
Last time I checked, you can still get marks at the Big Ten Championships. They are probably waiting on the 10k because you can't run more than 3 quality 10k races a season.

Carl Hirsch, Malachy Schrobilgen, McKena Ramos, Joe Hardy
http://www.tfrrs.org/results/40983_2527699.htmlMcKena Ramos is entered in the 800 this weekend in Iowa. Van Voorhis is entered in the 3K. The post about redshirting close to everybody appears to be the most accurate. They have a really unbalanced roster right now; a ton of distance runners (most, if not all true freshmen appear to be redshirting, including Benning, McDonald, Wilmot, Thompson), a ton of throwers, including NCAA Champ Lihrman, and very few sprinters and jumpers (excluding the multis). They may be waiting for a more balanced roster to seriously compete for track championships.
Mudd has used up 3 years of outdoor eligibility, but may be saving his fourth for 2016. Malachy has run some solid times, and Sandvold has set a bunch of PRs, while Joe Hardy has won most of the 1500s he's entered.
This is all from an outsider's perspective, so it's quite possible that there are larger issues afoot.
Bump

My guess is Van Voorhis runs 5/10 double at Big Tens.
