Look up the records. I remember seeing Payton Jordan running that kind of time (32-33) at about 85.....for 200, not 100. And a lot of people posting here probably could not run a 200 as fast as Payton ran in his 80's, and I don't mean age graded.

The WR in the 100 for Goldy's age group is 17.55, so it is NOT very good.

Typical of how little people here actually know about track and field.

I remember watching the aftermath of the Penn Relays over 80 100 meter some years ago. More than half the field DNFed the victory lap, or maybe it was a cool down lap, tough to say.

I'm reminded of a funny anecdote attributed to Ted Williams, long after his playing days were over. I'm making up the age and batting average because I no longer recall the exact details. Williams was asked what he'd be hitting against the pitching in current major league baseball. Williams paused and replied, "Around .265." "But Ted, you hit more than .300 in your career," the interviewer said. "I know," Williams replied, "But I'm 65 years old now."

You tell them coach d. I can't believe these 16 year olds don't pay attention to the 90 and up age group records. What is happening to this country. They probably don't even know all the words to "They Can't Take That Away From Me" by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin either.

For him, at age 98, getting up in the morning and knowing who he is is very good.

Cool story, but he certainly is a hobby sprinter. Running is not his profession. He is not getting paid. He is not getting a scholarship. He is not still in high school.

He is slower than every single member of my high school team, including girls.

Age is no excuse for being that slow.

The American records are much closer, such that the age 100 record is slower than he ran at 98, but the 95 record is faster.

On wiki, the world records for master's are 20 and 23, for 95 and 100.

On this site, the records are 20 for age 95 and 29 for age 100.

For a 98 year old, he is very fast. It is hard to believe that a 98 year old can run at all.

I'm not sure that because he's a lot slower than the WR he becomes "NOT very good".

Just being alive is a feat. Being mobile, even more so. Running a 100 in 33 ... Pretty darn cool in my book.

Rojo, you forgot to put in the comma after pissed. I think 33.09 for a 98 year old who was pissed was pretty good, definitely a sub 30 sober.

Great competitor. A few years ago at a masters meet I saw Champ walk into the shot put circle using one of those handicap walkers. Good to see him running again.
