How much is a 10k on the track supposed to hurt?? And when is the lactate supposed show up?

Should be gritting your teeth from start to finish.
should feel hard for the last 2k.
About 1/4 the pain of a marathon on a track.
It should hurt a lot. It should be a pretty even race. Unless you are really really good, it will feel a lot harder than the first few laps just to maintain pace in the last few. You'll kick, but the best you can do at that point is to maintain pace or maybe chop a sec or two off the last lap. That's what a 10k should feel like.
It should feel like a slightly fast tempo for a little while, then it takes a harder and harder effort just to maintain pace. It's definitely the toughest track race mentally
Like a 5000 that's gone horribly wrong.
Probably being the last event and most of the spectators go home before you finish, is what hurts the most.
If you go out too fast, it's going to hurt a lot
