Running 1600m Friday... What should goal be? 1st time outdoor 1600m this year in 4:33. Would like to break 4:25 FRI.

That is a fine 800m performance. He should try to win the 1,600 in a tactical 04:55.

Given your goal of 4:25, I would suggest running the 1st three laps somewhat conservatively, and then gradually picking it up with 400 meters to go IF you find you have a lot left.
Aim for 1:07--2:14--3:21.
Lol... Love to win with a 4:55... Not great odds of that happening.
Only run 1 outdoor mile... With inexperience it's tough to relax more 1st lap and not slow as much 2nd. 3rd and 4th are just pure guts and heart. That's what I'm working on.

Run 70-70-70-54. That should do it.
At first, I thought this might be a troll attempt. I thought, no way has any freshman run 1:57 at this point in the season. So, I went on milestat, and, sure enough, there you are (assuming it is you, if someone is trolling using your times etc. then that person is about as despicable a person as there is).
Anyway, assuming you *are* Beau Brannan, let me ask this: Who else is in the race? What do you expect the weather to be? The answers to those questions will help answer your question in the opening post.
Also? You have probably been told this already, but you have a very bright future. Not too many 9th graders have run so fast at 400 and 800 - especially at 400. Excelsior!
All right, before everyone jumps on me.
Beau, you're great, but, I just checked again on milestat.... Holy Crap! Ten freshmen have already broken 50 this season??? In mid-April?!? Wow! That's mind boggling! I'm glad I graduated h.s. in the 80s. The level of competition these days is ridiculous.
Thanks... Think 800m time is better than 40 time for age but both are state qualify times. Hope it's 60 and no wind... Usually windy tho. Some good milers in ND bYop HS time in State right now is around 4:17. Top ND of all time 4:05 Jake Leingang.
Think I can do 4:25 FRI. We' see.
The other guy piqued my curiosity, so I looked you up too.
Holy Moley! Kid, you are something else. Are you a normal age freshman?
Not only are your times amazing, but that stride, Jesus! You run like a miniature Juantorena. (Look him up if you don't know who he is.)
Two pieces of sincere advice:
1. If you're gonna be asking for advice here, be prepared for the fact that most of your responses will come from deeply-pathetic dipwads with nothing of value in their lives, who will mock and insult you, simply because they literally have nothing else to do.
So you'd better be prepared to ignore 90% of what you get.
2. Take it slow. Don't try to beat the whole world as a HS frosh, or even a soph, and don't get caught up in killing yourself to run the absolutely fastest marks you possibly can at every distance, as a freshman. (Or in breaking every freshman record out there, etc.)
Worry more about slow, steady improvement, training smart, not going crazy, avoiding injury.
I know it's tough to do when you're 14 or 15, but try to think more about making yourself as good as you can be a few years down the road, than running as fast as you possibly can right now --and maybe sacrificing the future in the process.
Take it slow. Try to be patient. That's the way to really fulfill your tremendous potential.
Be like Rupp, not Webb or Solinsky. Slow, incremental, steady improvement.
Do everything you can to avoid overtraining and injury.
Good luck, kid. I wish I'd had a hundredth of your talent.
(And for this week, yeah, I'd go with the guy who said try to hit 67's, and see what you've got left.)
I'd run the most even and hard pace possible, aiming to improve on the way that you ran the first one.
My dad grew up in ND. Tough place.

Pretty normal but a lot of those don't pan out to anything.

Do you know the recent times of the guys who will be in the race? If no one else in the field has broken 4:40, you're going to find it hard, I think, to run 4:25. If there are some guys in the field who will run that time, then hang with them. Regardless, don't go out too hard - it's the number one mistake high schoolers - especially freshmen with good speed - make. You should be no faster than 32-33 for the first 200 and no faster than 65 for 400. Unless there's more than one sub 4:20 guy in the field, I think a better goal for you is to try to win the race. Running 4:25 will be nice, but that will be a very temporary PR for you. Winning this race is forever.
Hey man, congrats on the great times so far. If you keep it up and stay healthy and focused you'll have a tremendous career.
In regards to your 4:25 goal, I think that you've got a good shot but I'd shoot for sub 4:30 pace through 1200 and see what you've got left the last 400m. Go for like 66-2:14-3:22-blast it.
Given your speed, if you're in mid 4:20s shape you can kick a 63 to get you to 4:25, but if not you wont die with this pace either and still should get under 4:30.
Good luck!
dude get off the guy's D....
Suggest your dad use a tripod, and aim the camera at the runners.
looked at some of your videos - you have tremendous ... TREMENDOUS ... talent. 4:25 is quite doable. - 67 - 67 - 68 then drop the hammer. Good luck
Thanks!
Tripod... No kidding!!!
