What you say sounds reasonable but have you ever talked to her kids?

Some people are just followers. If they weren't following her, they might be following your neighborhood drug dealer.

Just so you know, FERPA laws forbid professors from revealing any information about students to third parties. This includes annoying parents.

On the scale of things, is helicopter parenting so bad? So what she is overprotective. Better than the other extreme. I teach high school seniors and quite a few parents don't know and don't care if their kids are even showing up for class, much less about their kids' grades.

Yeah, I think I remember signing something so that the registrar could even talk to my parents about my financial aid details.

My mother's company offered scholarships to children of employees if they were first generation college attendees. It was something like $500. I don't remember the details, but something was funny in the way the check was made out. I don't remember if it was made out to the school in care of my mother, or something, but anyway I had to give permission to the school to talk to my mother about it so that they could get it straightened out.

Back to the OP, what you're saying is pretty ridiculous. I guess I don't really have a huge problem with parents taking an interest and maybe even talking to instructors under certain circumstances, but the weekly progress report is WAYYY too much.

My son is a college freshman and has had to deal with a few things this year like a grade in one of his classes, financial aid, issues with his laptop, etc. Typical college stuff. He calls or texts me (his mom and I are divorced) and I might point him in the right direction but other than that I've told him that he needs to learn how to handle these sorts of things himself. And lo and behold, he has! I get a lot of satisfaction out of seeing both of my kids succeed at something without me needing to be directly involved, I just don't get why some people feel the need to steer every aspect of their kids' lives.

A couple of schools I've taught at have the policy there is no exception to FERPA; if the parent wants to litigate, the lawyers can have at it.

Well that technique must be working since it got him into your local community college didn't it.
