Just wondering if anyone has had experience with a weird injury. Two weeks ago I was running to catch a train, and felt a sharp pain in my left foot. Got to the train, limped home, and discovered that there was a significant about of bruising / internal bleeding on the top of my foot, right above the metatarsal bones and extending to the lower bit of the toes, with a small amount of swelling. Immediately thought metatarsal stress fracture. After two weeks, bruising and blood remain, although the area has shrunk somewhat. The foot has been somewhat stiff and tender, but there is no pain walking. Went to the doctor, and he applied pressure to each of the metatarsal bones, the ligaments, and under the foot. No pain. So he thinks that I just managed to rupture a blood vein/vessel or perhaps damage some soft tissue. But he doesn't think there is a stress fracture, since we can't find any spot that hurts, and the significant bruising doesn't match up. The foot just looks terrible.
Has anyone experienced this? I can't find anything on letsrun, except that people have had issues with laces being too tight. But when it happened I was running in boat shoes, with no laces. I figured it must be running related, but I haven't been running too much (45-55 mph), and haven't had any other foot pain. So perhaps it was just a freak thing. If you have experienced such an injury, did you take time off to let the foot heal?
