Remember that fact when thinking this board has a clue. 83% of you were sucked into the hype. I wish you guys were all in my classes in College. This was the kind of class curve I needed.

And before the race there was not much reason to think Desi would beat Shalane. Someone else pointed out that Shalane was 11 - 0 against Desi before today. It isn't just hype, it is history.
Who?
Desi didn't really have a great day. Shalane had a very bad day. This was not a match where both ran their best.
Desi is looking great. I love her grit.
I had no idea that they had raced 11 times in the marathon? Or are you comparing apples to oranges?
It was great to see the grind it out style wear out much of the field. New Desi fan here. That was without all the pre race hype. Magazine covers are nice but a great performance is better.

I think that this is some serious bs. Hansons receive plenty of "luv". Did you listen to the broadcasts? I think that Ms. Linden is a very gritty runner but Shalane is far more talented. Hansons seem to have a better approach to the marathon and Ms. Linden seems to have an understanding of their approach.
Desi has no closing speed and will never win a marathon, ever.

Same with Shalane.

Yeah. Closing speed is the most important thing when it comes to the marathon.

You failed all your college classes? That's surprising.

Shalane Flanagan has only run 7 marathons. according to Tilastopaja.
This was Desi's first victory over Shalane in, I think, 12 races. A fine race for her and sorry that Shalane was not in top form.

All indications pointed to picking her to be first USA so it was a good call by the majority. The fact that she was not first USA does not negate the fact that it was
a pick based on sound judgment and thoughtful interpretations of the available information.
I expect that Shalane will turn into Kara or Ryan Hall She will make bold predictions and the uneducated Press will bite and the sheep will follow. All show and very little go. Expecting tears in Rio as she continues the show.
Count me as a Desi fan. What a gritty effort today into a strong headwind. Congratulations to all finishers today--you earned it.

Also, it was a pick based on the fact that she is white.

That is 11 - 0 lifetime at all distances the 2 have raced. This is the first time Desi has beat Shalane at ANY distance. Unless you knew the details of their training leading up to Boston, you didn't have much reason to believe Desi would beat Shalane.
