Hopefully she ran the workout before the race this time
Hopefully she ran the workout before the race this time
Not good at all, explain that away
Seriously, what is Alberto trying to do with this girl? She is going backwards. She should have jogged this race in a 4:14. Does anyone know what she looks like during this race? Any pictures? College adjustment and woman maturity issues here are BIG factors.
You'd think that they would have the NOPe dosages dialed in by now.
Anyway, it's about time to quit with the excuses for this goblin. Last year it was some nonsense about running slowly because of prom. Prom is four hours out of a whole year. Now, it is supposedly because of college. She barely goes to college at all. Something is not working; probably she's having bad reactions to the dope.

It's not like she developed hips in the last few months. And do you really thinks he's boozing it up with frat boys in college? Sheesh, you people. I bet you've never had a bad race, ever.
Don't ever use the word sheesh around here. Go hang ribbons around school celebrating the band or drama club and stop commenting on Mary. She's got issues that you're not yet prepared to deal with.
The pacer did a horrible job and took them through 800 in about 2:20 and kept going for another 200 at an even slower pace. Then alexi made a move and gapped the field. Cain and Leblanc reeled her in and Cain didn't have it last 100. Was not a fast race but Cain didn't run bad. She was just racing the field not for time and someone was quicker than her the final 100. It's acceptable as she's probably not sharp yet. And yes she did a workout after the race. Everyone is always so critical! Can't win every race or be at your best all the time!
Washed up!
Webb 2.0
4:17.9 is 9:05 3K pace. Her PR is 8:58 (her 9:38 converts to 8:54). And she lost the race. I wasn't worried at all when she opened with 2:03 last year. This is different.
We may have another Webb on our hands.

Re-run that calculator JB.
4:17.9 is what pace?

Wow.....major f'tard fail.
lol late night math fail.
4:17 is still the worst time in the last three-four years. 13 seconds off her PR (haha I had to double-check the math). What did Webb run his freshman year at Michigan? 3:59?
Still seems Webb-like. Hopefully she was just sick or allergies or something anomalous like that.
meanwhile Efraimson opens with a nice little 4:09 at Mt. Sac
NOT GOOD.

I said about a month ago to a buddy that this would be a very important outdoor season for Cain. I was like, "After outdoors, people will be looking at her recent results in two very different ways."
Let me explain. Take a look at her resutls from outdoors the last few years:
1500
2011 4:23.59
2012 4:11.01
2013 4:04.62 AJR AYR
2014 4:06.34
800
2012 2:03.34
2013 1:59.51 AJR AYR
2014 2:01.67
2014 clearly shows a lack of improvement. But one can say, "Cain was focused on world junior 3000 gold. That's all they cared about, etc"
That may have been the case but the lack of a PR at that age always should make people a little nervous. Couple that with her indoor results this year in the mile:
Mary Cain Miles
2013 4:28.25i AJR
2014 4:24.11i
2015 4:31.31i
and I said to my buddy, "Wow. The importance of her outdoor season can't be understated. If she rocks outdoors, people are going to dismiss last year's lack of PBs as being nothing but the reslt of her focus on World Juniors and this year's indoor reslts on her being sick."
"But and this is a big but. If she doesn't run well outdoors, people are going to go back and look at those things TOTALLY differently. Is she yet another HS girl that peaked really early?"
This was only her season opener and I ddidn't see the race, but assuming no falls or anythiing, getting smoked by a LeBlanc who didn't even make NCAA indoors in the 800 or the finals outdoors last year isn't good.
It's not time to panic but it's definitely time to pay even more attention. I always said as a coach, it's very common to improve a lot and then hit a plateau for a while. Then wait for another breakthrough. Hasay seemingly did that for all of college. But a big step backwards is never good.
2013 was her first full year with Alberto, thus the stimulus that resulted in such gains in fitness. Like with any athlete dealing with a new coach, we see this all the time, there are great results, and then the athlete plateaus (remember Ritz with Hudson, guys with Hansons) and they either move on or really need to dial in the training. Especially under Salazar's training, there is going to be some major improvements because he is hitting the body holistically (in the gym, form, plyos).. there is so much going on.
Hopefully she levels out (perhaps finishes growing), and starts adapting once more like we saw with Rupp and Centro and Mo.

So, she lost a somewhat tactical race in the final sprint... Meh. Anyway, good for Annie Leblanc.
Bigger story: congrats to Molly Huddle and Ben True!

This reminds me of people who complain about politicians? Do you really think he's trying to have her run badly?

But this just as idiotic. One guy is full of hate and one of over the top love.
I'm not sure what you re saying.
You write: "2013 was her first full year with Alberto, thus the stimulus that resulted in such gains in fitness."
So Alberto gets all of that credit even though she was improving a ton under her old coach?
2011 4:23.59 2-19 Eugene OR 25 Jun
2012 4:11.01 6-19 Barcelona 15 Jul
2013 4:04.62 AJR AYR 2 Eagle Rock CA 17 May
And then when she doesn't improve, it's alll part of a master plan.
And what did he do with Centro? Centro won a World Championship bronze BEFORE he was ccoched by Alberto.
Yes his work with Galen and Mo is unreal. I'll give you that.
Even Mo was doing fairly well before hand, just a couple misconception is training before he came to Salzar, that's all
Coupe of tweets with Rowbury
I can see him taking credit for Hasay success but he's just now in the process with he
Cam placed 11th in the 10k, and I think 13th the 5k at the Olymics, and had PR's of 3:41, 7:48, 13:18, and 27:27, he's just improved to 3:36, and 7:42 (although I think he's due for a breakthrough soon in the 5k and 10k), but he seems to be approaching faster and faster times with his high mikeage approach before Salazar
Centro like said, already World Medalist
Treniere was already like 6 x US Champion at 1500m, he just revived her
Couple of minor tweets w/ Dathan, although his old coach deserved slightly more credit for his 12:56, but still managed a World HM Medal, and a 2:07:47 at Marathon (not a east course)
I hate to say it being an NOP Fan, but Salazar can only really take full credit for Galen Rupp, and a good bit of credit for Hasay, in terms of his athletes success
Mary Cain? Idk, because HS'ers develop a lot during those years, you're youth is even you improve the most, she was at 4:11, I think she gained a lot of STRENGTH with Alberto considering how well she improved at 3k, 2 mile, 5k, but he brought her mileage from 35mpw to 60mpw, that will happen... He improved her STRIDE a bit, but she's always had a kick, and if she hadn't joined him, I'd say JR and SR of HS, she would have still been running consistent 4:07-4:10 with a 4:05 PR, but is that bad? Not by any means... What more does a HS'er need than to develop by HERSELF in HS, and then wait until college to start really getting into training, why the 15 minutes of fame? It's not necessary... You can do the normal system just like everyone else, just do it BETTER, look at Chanelle Price, Jenny Simpson, Shalane Flanagan, Molly Huddle, Shannon Rowbury, the hottest females right now from 800m to marathon, it took time, they had to ride the system, but they DEVELOP to who they are today by that system, that's what Cain needs to do, I don't want to see her come back next yet and then burn out for good at 22, it's not worth it
