I have often thought that if only I could stand to deal with people, inside sales would be my ticket to a better life because it would make use of my excellent written and oral communication skills. But I can't even hold down a call center job because as I have to interact with person after person as the day goes on, I start to get agitated and my performance goes downhill. Do you think a true introvert could ever adjust to sales?
First off the days of sleazy hard selling are long over. Trust-based professional selling based on relationships and listening to and providing value to the customer is the new paradigm of sales and, indeed, customer service, marketing and business in general. So negative extrovertive qualities are of no use since while you can bs in other walks of life, the business to business selling marketplace has demands that is mostly inhospitable for phoniness. The only minor exception bring that Perhaps in certain parts of the united states racial rapport and racism are still present.
Phone center work is much different from business to business selling.
Go give it a shot. Many firms hire people without business backgrounds and give them sales training usually a combination of out of house programmes by famous providers tied to the company's needs. It seems that there is plenty of opportunity in this field.
