I did my first track 5k of the season yesterday, and I once again failed to live up to my expectations. As I had this issue earlier and even worse, I followed the typical letsrun advice and ran my workouts a lot more controlled and always finished strong. Some example workouts from the last weeks:
2000/1400/3*1000, 3min rest in 6:23, 4:27, 4:21, 3:05, 3:01, 2:59
70 min Tempo at 3:31/km
4*1600, 400m rest in 4:55, 4:54, 4:55, 4:54
I ran 15:40 for a new pr but still think I should have run quite some seconds faster. I felt smooth until 3k, passing in 9:12 and then totally fell apart. Compared to my competitors I was breathing a lot less at 3k, but I just wasn't able to hold my form together and my cadence decreased quite a bit.
Did I just overestimate myself and am just not in the shape I think? or should I go back to hammering workouts and performing a lot better on them, but at least improving? What kind of workouts can I do to be able to hold my form longer?
