Starting at 3:25 of the video, watch Geb jump the field from 500m out... pretty damn awesome, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8wBZEoLBQ4

The guy @ 45:06 had a better distance performance that day and could have beaten Geb if they met at Athens.

True. Komen looked great that day. Just out for a fartlek.

Geb is a bad loser and a small human being.

Nonsense. You could clearly see that Geb had an off day. Normally Geb was a much better kicker than Komen.
Geb did have a better kick than Komen but on that day Komen went hard from a long ways out - which is why the kick was nullified.

It's easy to make excuses for the GOAT, but on this day, Komen destroyed Geb. He laid it out at 3,300 meters and told the field they would have to bleed for that win.
This is the ballsiest kick ever for sure. Komen led a ridiculous pace for the last mile and still had some in the tank to break Geb in the last 150 meters.

Huge balls, and finally hung on in a great field with a WR.

Complete. Demolishing. Revenge.
How many times did Geb run that scenario in training in the intervening year?
Komen was toast after that. Did his career peak last for even 20 months?

^This clearly shows that it really was dependent on the day which one had the better kick. Komen clearly had talent to be the greatest ever - I still think his 7:20 is the best distance record on the books. Not even El G got close.
Geb just stuck it out and had the better career. I mean, how can you compete with World Champion at 1500 and WR at the marathon (not to mention everything in between).
Komen's 2:29 kilometer to 4k is what destroyed Geb. They both blew up over the last 1k, but Komen blew up less.

No one has ever finished a WR distance race as fast that that one.

Does this patently false claim make you feel better about yourself? Talk about small human beings, we need a microscope to see you!
Beautiful clip of Gebrselassie spoiled by Steve Ovett's boorish commentary. Customarily I prefer English coverage because the quality of analysis is of such high quality, but Steve Ovett is an exception to this. He insists on calling Geb "the little man." This is tiresome, not only because of the paternalism, but also because it is repeated so frequently.
