Great Oak already has SEVEN girls under 11 minutes

FM couldn't do this. That is why Great Oak is the real number one distance program in the country. FM is just a bunch of mudders. Put them on the track or on the roads or anywhere that is raced by Galen Rupp and Great Oak would be victorious.

if that is for 3200 or 2 miles, they would go 1-7 in New York City public schools.

A good program can be built - not easily, but it can be done.

NYPS has ZERO girls under 11min? That's...pathetic. How big is that district? Maybe demographics issues play into that.

Who honestly cares? This is a team where these girls consistently run 55-60 miles a week? Honestly, if you are doing that much, you should atleast be under 10:30.

IS that talent, actually? Since all of the girls are so close I'd credit the training. Statistically, there typically is a greater distinction between talented people and their peers.

I guess I meant some... Destiny is talented! Honestly idk about the others... Who knows how could this would be if they want 35-40 miles a week?

In NYC, "distance runners" tend to go to private schools while "sprinters" nearly all attend public schools.

No, FM couldn't do this and wouldn't do this. FM would beat this team in a race, this is a time trail team. They can run together in a pack, but they can't race a real race for place. this is the problem with the US and it's distance runners, or at least has been the problem, great time trailers, lousy racers.

FM wins 9 out of 10 times.

7 between 10:50 and 10:57 shows the training, namely, that they are all doing the same training, the same workouts, and sticking together in those workouts at about the same pace. That's how you get pack running, but the quality here is unbelievable.

44 girls have run the 1600 on their team and only 4 are seniors. They rank 9th, 11th, 14th, 15th. Why would a team that is that good and with so many members on the team only have 4 seniors?

What's the story with this team?

Lousy coaching job in cross country for all the talent this school gets. They should be a world beater with the kind of marks they put up every year.

As you said Great Oak is a time trial team. Just wait until Desert Vista, Great Oak and Saugus meet up in the 4xmile at Arcadia two weekends from now.

This has to be the most sub eleven girls from one team in one season ever, right? And all are underclassmen too. How this team did not win Nike Cross Nationals last fall is beyond me. I would be surprised if they didn't win this year.

They have a lot of talent, but they have under performed a couple of times when it really counts. Last year they had (2) 4:4X and (2) 4:5x milers, I thought they could break the 4x1600 of 20:10 HSR on a bad day. Although, they did come close with 20:16.

Having 7 kids run fast over 3200m is different than having 5 kids run faster over 5k.

Also, having 4 kids ahead of the other team's #2 helps. Also helps that their #5 was right behind Great Oak's #2 as well.

Great Oak didn't win the 4x1600 at Mt Sac Relays last year, even with 2 4:4x milers.
