Long story short, I was a volunteer basketball coach at a local high school this year, got to know some of the administrators, and was approached to help assist the unified track team this spring (unified team= 50/50 mix of students with disabilities and non-disabled students). Any LRC folks out there with any experience coaching Special Olympics T&F? They will be running the 100, 400, 4x100, SP and LJ, but we are allowed to mix in other events- those are the base five.
I coached a Special Olympics golf group in college, so I'm not totally in the dark... But I'm curious to other's experiences, what I may expect, what the athletes will be capable of, etc. For example, I know that some athletes will have trouble with balance and coordination, so is static stretching a better (safer) option than dynamic? Stuff like that...And please, be respectful.
