I was amused and surprised to see in the program for tomorrow's World XC Champs a list of doping violations at the event. Most of the positive tests are 2002 or after. Zero from the 1980s (big surprise). There is one from 1988, and the name really caught my eye--Cosmas Ndeti. He was apparently booted after initially finishing second in the junior race. I assume this is the same Ndeti who went on to win Boston in '93, '94, and '95. Ndeti was an odd duck because he was, unlike most of the Kenyan athletes, arrogant and brash. He never seemed to run well anywhere other than Boston. Think he had a dnf at Chicago one year. I saw him at New York in '96, and he was the only guy who couldn't be bothered to sign autographs. He quote scripture from the Bible and belittled his fellow competitors. Odd to see that he was also a doper, but wonder what he was taking?
