I'm trying to understand why my performance level in the half marathon is so much stronger in the half marathon than 10k and Marathon. My lactate threshold seems to be much stronger than my aerobic threshold and above threshold performance and was wondering if there is any scientific explanation for it.
10k- 0
Half- +8 sec/mile slower
Mar- +33 sec/mile slower than Half
I have never trained specifically for a half marathon which makes the small gap between performance level at 10k and half baffling and all times were run within a short window of time. These are not just one off results either. My half marathon pace has always been between 8-12 sec/mile slower than 10k pace. I am not a top elite athlete which would make that pace gap feasible from a performance aspect. I am a relatively new runner with a 10k PR of 38 minutes.
Could anyone explain the physiology as to why I have a relatively high Lactate threshold compared to other systems and what the implications are?
Thanks for any replies in advance.
