Hey guys I have pain in my left heel, normally its just for the 1st mile that I run and then it goes away. Sometimes I can feel it whenever I am walking. Its the back of the heel, off the ground maybe an inch up. Its sore if I touch it. What's wrong with me, and how can I fix it?
Sounds like it could be early symptoms of plantar fascitis and/or achilles problems. This often is due to tight calves and hamstrings. Are you arches sore or tight? Before you answer no, try rolling the bottom of your foot on a tennis ball or golf ball, while standing so that there is some weight. If that hurts, then you have bad arches.
For treatment, try rolling and stretching your calves, lots of ankle rotations and toe taps, and the classic - use your toes to pull a towel towards you.
(I ignored early heel pain and ended up missing two years of running once it developed into debilitating plantar fascitis).
