because i ran 5.5 and i feel like a tortoise. then again, this morning i did 4.25 miles worth of VO2 max intervals, but idk how much that matters.
i've run 15:29 5k on track
should my acceleration speed be better?

I ran a 4.9 40yd dash (FAT) when I was also running a 17:40 5k at age 38. My best 40 was a 4.56 at age 27. I was an 11.2/23 sec 100 and 200 guy in college.
I have a 4.6 40 pr and did that as a freshman in College. My HS 5k track time was 14:24, 3200- 9:20, 1600- 4:18, 800- 1:58, 400- 49.8
Didn't run the 800 much in hs.
Never mind the 40yd, what's your flying 30? (w/ 30m start)
40 yards is mostly drive phase, a good sprinter can keep accelerating past that distance. Best to focus on that instead of trying to fit all the acceleration into 40 yards. Top speed rules. Power the first 20m, then accelerate.
What does FAT mean?

With that speed, you could nearly assume you could run a competitive 8 in 1:55 or better. But the 40 dash is nearly pointless in the world of running, and only serves football and baseball with any sort of fitness indication.

Wow! I wish I could do my 5k faster at a faster pace than my 3200!
Full Automatic Timing
That would be the worst 800m runner I've ever seen. 49.8 speed and 14:24 endurance but can't string together two 59's in a row.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
